Men’s President
We started the month with the Mount Coolum
Aged Care $5000 Prestige Open Pairs on 4
& 5 April. A high class field of 36 teams took
to the greens for this popular annual tournament.
The winners were Rob White & Ian Baird for
an unprecedented third year in a row. That’s
15 rounds of bowls without defeat. What an
outstanding effort!
The placings were:
2nd Tim Quinn & Peter Johnson
3rd Graham Anderson & Chris McDonald
4th S Malzard & Darren Maddrell
5th Marilyn Clayton (sub Ian Turvey) & Trevor
Barbara
Thanks to all the volunteers for their time and
effort to ensure everything ran smoothly.

through to the semi finals where they will meet
Pelican Waters on Saturday morning 2nd May.
Let’s hope they can go all the way.
State District Sides Championship 3—6 May
Coolum will be represented in two Sunshine
Coast teams by the following bowlers:
Fred Diamond, Troy Somerville, Peter Worth,
Greg Brown, Shane Burke, Peter Carmody,
Jason Thomas, Dave Billigton, Greg Dale &
Chris Kleiberg.
Please come along and watch as you will be
rewarded with bowls of a standard that we all
aspire to. This will be a massive 4 days for us
and remember we are all club ambassadors.
State Championships
We will host Men’s Singles and Ladies Fours
on Friday 8 May and Men’s Over 60’s Pairs on
Saturday 16 May.
Drawn to play at Coolum are: Greg Brown,
Greg Dale and David Balchin in the Over 60’s
Pairs. We will move our Friday Men’s Pairs to
Saturday 9 May if you are interested in playing.
A last minute call up for a substitute was answered by Dave Wright & Don Griffith, which
allowed us to continue without forfeits.
Until next time, take care and enjoy your bowls.
Club Championship Pairs
Yes, they did defend their title—Greg Brown &
Greg Dale that is. After a semi final of extremely high standard against Peter Carmody
& Tim Quinn, the Gregs prevailed by 2 shots.
The momentum continued in the final against
Trevor Barbara & David Balchin where they
won by 8 shots.
Bowler of the Month
Back to back titles have not been achieved
since 1996/97 when completed by Peter
Wright & Eddie Hall.

Ladies’ President
At last we have some cooler
weather, the mornings and
evenings are cooling down
while the days have been
beautiful. Great bowling
weather.
Congratulations to all bowlers who entered competitions for April. This will
greatly improve your game
and you get to meet lots of
other bowlers from all over
the district.
Our club Pairs Champions
for 2015 are Marilyn Clayton
and Brenda Balchin with the
runners up Annica McGill
and Kay Darling. Well done
to you all, some great bowls
were played.
I was fortunate to mark the B
Grade Singles final between
Judy Wilson and Kerri
Mackenzie, what a great
game. It was worthy of being
an “A” grade final. The end
result was a win to Judy Wilson but close right to the end.
Well done to both ladies.
We had quite a few teams entered in the District Pairs
Comp which was held at both
Nambour and Caloundra.
Some tough competition and
not so nice weather didn’t see
most of our teams advance to
the finals. However, Fran
Millard and Joan Shipstone
made it through to the semi
final, well done ladies.
I am hosting the “Biggest
Morning Tea” which will be
held at our bowls club on
Thursday 28th May 2015 commencing at 11am. The cost will
be $5 per head and there will
be a raffle as well, with all proceeds going to the Cancer
Council. I am sure we have all
been touched by cancer, either
personally or with friends and
relations. This will be a great
chance to catch up over a
“cuppa” and it would be great if
we could get all our Thursday
afternoon bowlers to arrive
early and participate in the
morning tea.
Our fiesta will
be held on
Wednesday
15th July 2015.
There will be 3
games of 14
ends for teams
of four. Please
get your team
together and
get your entries
in as soon as
Castlemaine Perkins Ltd
possible. Also, if you could donate something for our “goose
table” that would be greatly appreciated. Our fiesta day is always something special and I
am sure this year will be even
better.
There is a sheet in the games
room for those bowlers interested in playing Pennants, which
commences in August. Please
put your name down, we need to
know as soon as possible how
many teams we might have and
how many divisions.
There will be more lockers installed in the ladies locker room
at the end of May. Please ensure your name is on the list with
the correct locker number and
for those ladies who would prefer a lower locker than the one
they have now, please see me
and I will arrange to swap lockers for you.
That’s about it for this month,
until next time, happy bowling
and enjoy this wonderful
weather.
Yours in bowling
