Welcome Back – Term 4
We would like to welcome back all our staff, students and families for Term 4. We extend a
special welcome to our new families. During the term there will be many learning opportunities
and activities which our students will be participating in. Some of these include: In-class
Learning, Coolum Carnival, Cheerleading, Music (Count Us In), Yr 6/7 Alternate Activities, Learn to Swim,
Swimming Carnival, Carols, Firebirds Cup, Showcase Night and Yr 6&7 Graduation. We all look forward to
a positive and productive term. (Pat Cavanagh)
Prep Open Day - This Sunday 12 October
This is a chance to come along and explore the school with your family. The school will be open from 911am for you to share the first school experience with your child.
The only thing you must bring is your child’s full Birth Certificate in order to enrol into Prep – we need to
keep a copy of the original. There will be hot and cold drinks and cake for everyone at no charge, provided
by OSHC. Please spread the message in the wider community as we need to get everything ready for our
2015 Preps. Looking forward to seeing you! (Linda Morse)
Yr’s 6 & 7 Guest Speaker - Eric Bailey
Next Wednesday 15 October at 1 pm, Yr’s 6 & 7 will enjoy the opportunity to listen to Eric Bailey –
a renowned ‘activational speaker’.
A proud Australian, Eric draws on his unique life, successful careers in professional sport,
executive management and sales, and a wealth of knowledge in the field of personal and
organisational excellence to create powerful and inspiring presentations. With presence and
personality, he commands a room like few can.
Our Yr 6 & 7 students look forward to his inspiring words to assist in their transition to high school.

Pupil Free Day
Please note - Monday 20 October is a Pupil Free Day. (Pat Cavanagh)
School Absences
It is a requirement of Education Queensland that when students are absent from school a reason
is given for the absence. For those parents who go online to register an absence, there is a
provision to state the reason. If parents are using the phone or email then please state the reason
for absence. Our administrative staff then enters these details onto the Department’s database.
Remember “Every Day Counts” and unless sick, all children are to attend school. (Chris Chant)
News from 4B
What a super year we’ve had so far in 4B! Here is a bit of a snippet of what we have been doing.
We all enjoyed Sports day and the Cross Country where all our true colours came out! In Science
we have learnt about plants, life cycles, erosion, materials and ochre – doing lots of experiments!
We’ve made up our own dances, convict plays and poems. We have written stories, designed
posters, learnt about safe bike riding and Science fun - experiments with air. We had a fabulous
time on Year 4 camp where we participated in many activities that were quite challenging and
came home exhausted after 3 days of non-stop action!
We made boats, cards and a protective package for an egg in Technology. We also did some
online blogging during ICT lessons. From singing new songs and playing new instruments in
Music to learning new games in PE, we have had a brilliant time!
The most fun we have as a class is when we have Funday Friday on the last Friday of every
month. We play team games, trivia quizzes and bring our own games in from home to play with
our friends. Last term we had an Amazing Race, where we got to form groups with other Year 4
friends and complete different tasks around the school as a challenge, linking in with what we
were learning about in English…Quest Stories - we had a ball! A group of 4B girls won the
challenge out of all Year 4’s, great teamwork!
We’ve had some great achievements in 4B with students making it into the school skipping team,
Tournament of the Minds, representatives at District Athletics and a number of boys playing in
footy tournaments, as well as keeping on top of our reading by entering the Premier’s Reading
Challenge.
Everyone in 4B cannot wait until Coolum Carnival this term! Wow, what a busy but fun year it’s
been already! Yay 4B, keep up the great work!! FUN! FUN! FUN! ☺
Coolum AllStarz Shine!!!
The fantastic Coolum AllStarz Cheer Squad have blitzed their competitors at the recent Australian
All Star Cheerleading Federation State Championships and the World Cup Cheer and Dance
National Schools Championships.
A group of 25 students ranging from Year 4 to Year 7 at Coolum State School performed four
routines at the first competition (AASCF State Championships) and placed in all four categories.
The energetic and enthusiastic group of dancers came away with 1st place Hip Hop, 2nd place
Contemporary, 3rd Pom and 3rd Jazz.
The following week, the Coolum AllStarz competed at their second competition (WCCD National
Schools Championships) and came away with some amazing results again… 1st place Variety
Dance, 1st place Contemporary, 2nd place Jazz, 2nd place Hip Hop and 3rd place Pom. One of the
Coolum AllStarz team members, Gabby, also placed in her two Dance solos – 2nd place
Contemporary, 3rd place Jazz. A huge achievement from all involved! Well done girls!
To place in all categories at both competitions is absolutely outstanding!
A heartfelt thank you must go to the absolutely outstanding network of parent helpers…your help
has been invaluable and so much appreciated! THANK YOU!!!
Congratulations and well done Coolum AllStarz on another very successful year!
