FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Year B 26th April 2015
The celebration of GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY – with its Good Shepherd Gospel - is an
opportunity to pray that the Lord will raise up more people to inspire the Church as priests,
deacons and consecrated men and women. The focus this year is on how a vocation changes not
only the life of the person called but also the life of those to whom they will minister. Above all, this is a moment
to invite the whole church to be involved in the process of changing lives through our prayer for vocations.
Coupled with a nurturing atmosphere in our homes, parishes and schools, this will enable those who are called to
respond to such a vocation. So everybody is involved in the work of this Sunday, a time of grace for all the
faithful as we pray together that the Lord will change lives by raising up more ordained and consecrated people.
There’s a free prayer booklet at back of church. Please take a copy home with you to pray for five days for
vocations on the themes of: trust; awakening; openness; seeking; and encounter.
NEW MEMORIAL MEETING ROOM NOW OPEN Warm thanks once again to all who helped in any way for the official
opening last Sunday afternoon. It was quite a moving moment as the memorial plaque was revealed, with its engraved
names of loved ones.
NATIONAL CHURCHES TRUST A reminder that the NCT gifted us £10,000 towards the Memorial Meeting Room. They
have asked for a handful of parishioners to become annual members. As Parish Priest I’ve done so myself, and I’d be
grateful to know if you wish to do the same. It costs £30 per year.
FIRST SUNDAY OF MAY TOWN CENTRE MARIAN PROCESSION Next Sunday at 2pm Fr Bruce invites us all to go to
join in the town centre Marian procession at Sacred Heart. It starts at 2pm. I encourage as many as are able to attend. It is
a living witness through the streets of central Bournemouth. There is NO QUIET HOLY HOUR here at 3.30pm that day.
PARISH CENSUS FORM Please fill one in today. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY FILLED ONE IN LAST WEEKEND, THERE IS
NO NEED TO FILL IN ANOTHER.
A WARM WELCOME TO OUR BISHOP PHILIP Bishop Philip will be making an official visit to St. Thomas Garnet school on
Tuesday morning this week; and the same for Corpus Christi school that afternoon. Pray for staff and children that they’ll
make the most of it, and truly enjoy the occasion. Each visit will begin with a service of prayer, and our school will hold theirs
in church.
FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION SESSIONS continue at 4pm in our Parish Centre on the next three Saturdays,
2nd, 9th, 16th May.
GOLDEN WEDDING MASS Danielle Dew’s parents, André & Nadege will hold a Golden Wedding Mass here on
Sat 2nd May at 10am. A family priest-friend, Fr François, will concelebrate.
RCIA – JOURNEY IN FAITH Meets Monday 27th April at 7.30pm in Parish Centre.
THE ORIGINS OF “HEARTS ON FIRE”
At the second Jesuit Parishes Conference in February 2014, the delegates from each of the 10 British
parishes were challenged by the Jesuit Provincial, Fr Dermot Preston S.J. to return to their parishes and make them into
thriving centres of Ignatian Spirituality. Upon our return, the team planned a Parish Day for all, which was an opportunity
for the whole worshipping community to experience praying in various Ignatian ways for themselves.
This summer, with the help of some younger Jesuits from the British, Irish and Dutch provinces, we are planning a week
of exciting and uplifting events for young and old to build on this beginning.
Saturday 24th July to Friday 31st July: 'Hearts on Fire' Mission week.
Please see next weeks newsletters for an explanation of the title - 'Hearts on Fire'.
