Social media and nursing: do’s and don’ts Social media is not a fad. It is a fundamental shift in how we see and interact with the world. It has been called the biggest change in our society since the industrial revolution. There are few that have not been affected by the power of social media. From marketing and news reporting to law enforcement and political revolutions, social media is changing our world. Social media is also changing the nursing profession. This webinar will focus on how the professional use of social media can benefit your nursing career, provide a wealth of evidence-based information and spread the positive impact of nursing. In 2014, Laurie commenced her honours research project, investigating moral courage demonstrated by undergraduate nursing students. She is passionate about social media, leadership and supporting nursing students and early career nurses. Laurie has written articles for publications including The Hive, Nursing Review and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Journal. She is actively engaged with social media and has presented on this topic at international and national nursing conferences. Laurie has given guest lectures on social media use to nursing students at the University of Newcastle and Queensland University of Technology and in 2014 launched her own blog, Defining Nursing.
