The Crazy Ideas College (CIC) online learning platform – designed for and by teachers- helps students develop and promote ideas so that they can have an impact in their communities. The online platform hosts a series of resources and learning activities that support students through a four step process: 1. Identifying local issues 2. Idea generation 3. Testing and refining ideas 4. Pitching and promoting The CIC platforms ensures teachers have all of the resources on hand to successfully guide the students through activities. The program is largely delivered in classroom, so that teachers can adapt the program to suit learning objectives, schedules and timelines. Teachers and students can learn at their own pace though a recommended time commitment is about one hour a week for 6-8 weeks. Local events to support the classroom learning experience Full day Crazy Ideas short course: Held early in term three, this short course will support students to gain some initial experience navigating each of the four steps. Over the course of the day they will form a strong connection to their idea so that momentum is sustained as they commence the CIC classroom platform. Crazy Ideas Biennale: Southern Grampians Shire will host an Ideas Biennale in week nine of term three so that students can present and promote their ideas to community members and leaders. The program can be adapted to meet the learning needs of a broad range of students. The model has been used by senior primary school students, VCAL participants, senior school leaders and with year 9-10 specialist learning programs. What support will be provided to support teachers through the process? A teachers guide will be provided to all participating teachers. NBS Digital will be available to resolve any technical or digital issues. CIC has also engaged a local community leader, Naomi Turner to provide practical on the ground support as required. Is there a charge for accessing the CIC online platform? No What are the benefits for students? CIC connects students into community conversations and real world decision making processes.
