WELCOME TO SHAFFER TRUCKING!
Thank you for your interest in driving for one of the nation’s
most successful refrigerated truckload carrier companies.
Established in 1937, Shaffer Trucking, a division of Crete Carrier
Corporation, has earned a reputation for hiring experienced
top quality professional drivers. Shaffer Trucking’s low turnover
rate confirms their commitment to the professional driver and
also the driver’s commitment to Shaffer.
BASE PAY SCALE
Shaffer Trucking offers one of the most comprehensive
pay packages in the truckload industry, and has also been
independently certified as a Top Paying Carrier by the National
Survey of Driver Wages.
Starting driver pay starts at $.48–$.51 depending on verifiable
years of experience. Drivers are also eligible for a $.01 per mile
yearly pay increase up to a maximum of $.52 in the National
Fleet. The average annual earning for the top 25 percent of
National Fleet drivers at Shaffer Trucking are $68,000.
PAY FOR EXPERIENCE
If you have one or more years of experience, which we are able
to verify, you may qualify to start in our National Fleet at our

PRACTICAL ROUTE MILES
Shaffer Trucking also pays their drivers using Rand McNally
Practical Route Miles. Many companies in the industry use
what is referred to as “short route miles.” Our Practical Route
Miles reflect about two to four percent more miles—for which
you are paid—and more accurately represent your actual route.

MODERN, WELL-MAINTAINED EQUIPMENT
Premium equipment spec’d with the driver in mind has
always been the standard at Shaffer Trucking. Our policy of
providing assigned tractors ensures that our drivers share in
that pride. This year we added 2015 Freightliner Cascadias
with 1200w inverters installed.
HOME TIME
Being a family owned company, we understand the
importance of home time. In the National Fleet drivers can
expect to be away from home for 18–24 days depending on
the residing area. Other fleets have options for home time
every 6–17 days.
Drivers will be entitled to one day off for every six days out
on the road. Non-vacation home time will generally be limited
to a maximum of four consecutive days. Dedicated fleet
drivers who drive a tighter geographical area will be home
more often.
LAYOVER, LOADING, UNLOADING,
AND EXTRA DROP PAY
Layover eligibility requirements:
A. Subject to approval by Operations Management, if
the layover is an operational issue other than freight
availability you will earn layover pay at the rate of $100

notified the Operations Department, depending on the
expected duration of the layover, a motel room may
