About 1,000 species of all pollinators are vertebrates such as birds, bats, and small mammals. Most pollinators (about 200,000 species) are beneficial insects such as flies, beetles, wasps, ants, butterflies, moths, and bees. Bees can fly at about 7 miles per hour, and have to beat their wings 190 times per second to do it! The 2015 Stewardship Theme “Local Heroes Your Hardworking Pollinators” 2. School, teacher’s name, class, and grade 3. The student’s name, home address and phone number 4. “Must” be typed and double spaced 5. “Must” be 300 to 500 words in length The essays are judged on the following criteria: • Conservation message (70 percent) • Composition (10 percent) • Spelling (10 percent) • Appearance (10 percent). Why Participate ? When writing an essay researching the theme, can give you an awareness of conservation issues in your community.. Good essays will capture people’s attention with a powerful and inspired message on conserving our natural resources. . Any essay entered that does not follow these instructions will be disqualified. Prizes (given in both divisions) 1st Place will receive a $75.00 monetary award The 1st Place winner and their teacher will also receive an additional $75.00 when they attend the SWCD’s annual Awards Banquet 2015. 2nd Place will receive a $50.00 monetary award 3rd Place will receive a $25.00 monetary award The teacher of winners will receive the same monetary award. st The 1 Place winners will then compete at the Area I level Area I winners will then compete at the State level.
