Local Heroes Your Hardworking Pollinators

Greenville County Soil & Water Conservation District
2015 Essay Contest Did you know that about 75% of all flowering plant species need the help of animals to move their heavy pollen grains from plant to plant for fertilization? Our local pollinators are hardworking heroes! Often we may not notice the hummingbirds, bats, bees, beetles, butterflies, and flies that carry pollen from one plant to another as they collect nectar. Yet without them, wildlife would have fewer nutritious berries and seeds, and we would miss many fruits, vegetables, and nuts, like blueberries, squash, and almonds . . . not to mention chocolate and coffee…all of which depend on pollinators!
