Resident of the Week Award 6 to 7:30 PM Resident of the week is: Jon Zande 4/13: Townhall Stop by to discuss resident issues! One of his co-residents wrote: “I’ve only worked with Jon for a little while, but I have to say, he is the best co-intern I’ve ever worked with. He is 5:30 to 7 PM always going out of his way to offer to help, even on his busy call days. Even when there’s an issue that comes up with a patient that’s he’s not 5/5: Agre Society directly covering, he does not simply notify the intern directly caring for the patient. Instead he handles the issue himself, checks on the patient speaker Dr. Stan Gerson will be our featured 5:30 to 7 PM and then lets the intern know. Jon is an all-around team player and it’s unfortunate that he’s going into neurology and not IM or anesthesia because I’d love to work with him more and I know he’d make one outstanding senior resident.” Current Chiefs VA CHIEF Scott Denstaedt Thank you for your hard work! She describes the stools as mucoid but without visible blood. Bowel movements are associated with mild abdominal cramping. She has no nausea or vomiting. The patient works with infants in a day care center, and several children have recently had a diarrheal illness. On physical examination, temperature is 37.8 °C (100.0 °F); other vital signs are normal. Abdominal examination discloses normal bowel sounds and diffuse mild tenderness to palpation. A stool sample shows no gross blood, but results of guaiac testing and a test for fecal leukocytes are positive. The patient is advised to increase fluid intake and take over-the-counter antipyretic agents for fever. No antibiotics are prescribed. Two days later, a stool culture is reported to be growing Shigella sonnei. The patient is contacted and reports that her diarrhea and fever have both resolved and that she wishes to return to work.
