They mutually thought each other was crazy for working in below-freezing temperatures. After this encounter, Tom decided to look into their job and soon began working for the State Highway Department and then the Federal Highway Administration, traveling to various locations. He worked as a surveyor, road inspector, railroad inspector (Pueblo Colorado Test Track) and electrical power station operator while his parents continued living in Sundance. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed square dancing. Tom was married late in life to a woman with three children in Pueblo, CO. From this union, Patrick Robert Bergin was born in 1975. Some years after they divorced, he married Dannette Winfield from Moab, UT. He retired from the Federal Highway Administration in 1987 with 26 years of service. Tom and Danny lived in Moab for several years before retiring to Hill City in 1990. After seven spinal surgeries in a space of 12 years, Tom was wheelchair-bound and lived at home until he moved into Senior Care in December 2013. He is survived by his wife, Danny, of Hill City, and his son, Pat, recently of Crawford, NE. The viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Hill City Cemetery. Doc moved onto a job at Texaco, driving truck for a couple of years. In 2001, he had his first grandchild on his birthday, Chevelle Danae. Doc then started logging. He was a crane operator. This was by far his favorite job. But, in 2007, Doc suffered a heart attack. He became disabled at this time. In March 2008, he was blessed with his second grandchild, Lucas Scott, which he always called “Monkeyman.” From here, Doc became more ill. He suffered a massive heart attack in September 2013. He never fully recovered from this. His family took care of him for many years. His daughter, Shannon, was his main caretaker. She would do anything for her dad. Doc made friends very easily. He was outgoing and had many friends from all over the world; Australia, Milan, and many other exotic places. He will always be remembered for his smile, sense of humor, and his easy way of making friends where ever he went. Doc was a jack of all trades. He could do just about anything he put his mind to. But his most recent job was his favorite, logging. He loved running his crane. He was proud of all the work he had done for the community. Doc had many interests. He worked on cars, pickups, and bikes. He loved his trains and was a collector of all things cool, odd, unique, and antique. He displayed his treasures with pride. He spent many hours with his friends, family, and his dog, Brandy. Survivors include his daughters, Shannon (Terry) Hudson, Sturgis, and Kacee (Scott Burnham) Kirsch, Belle Fourche; mother, Helen Kirsch, Sturgis; grandchildren, Lucas, Chevelle, and Katlynn, Sturgis; two brothers, Willian (Brenda) Kirsch, Pringle, and Kevin Kirsch, Custer; and sisters, Shelley (Gary) Budish, Park River, ND, and Leslie (Al Aries) Bertolotto, Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his father and his maternal and paternal grandparents. A time of remembrance will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. They settled in Newcastle in 1950, where they raised three daughters. Evelyn worked in the Weston County Courthouse in the Assessor’s Office from 1966 to 1979, and served as County Clerk from 1979 to 1986. She retired in 1986, to travel with her husband, who sadly died of cancer in 1988. Thereafter, she did travel around the country for many years, to visit her daughters and grandchildren. She enjoyed participating in her clubs — Order of Eastern Star, Jobs Daughters as Guardian, 21st Century, Dirt Daubers and P.E.O. Chapter X. She was an avid seamstress, a wonderful baker and a fabulous cook. She was a long-time, active member of First United Methodist Church, and especially enjoying baking for and helping with the annual bazaar. She loved to play cards — from Bridge to Pinochle; she enjoyed playing any card game with friends. She always had a friendly smile for everyone, and cherished her loving circle of friends. Her final years were spent at the Manor, still smiling and dancing with friends and staff. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by one sister, Nadine Sieg of Spearfish; one half-sister, Terry Bauer of Morro Bay, CA; one half-brother, John Jones of Madera, CA; three daughters, Janette (Ron) Gehring of San Jose, CA, Judy (Jerry) Anderson of Newcastle, and Jackie (Jack) Duty of Riverdale, CA; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Doc was a Kirsch fighter. He never wanted to give up and he never did. Doc was born Nov. 10, 1959, to Gordon and Helen (Hansen) Kirsch in Pierre. He attended many schools as the family moved often. They finally settled in Sturgis. He attended school at Sturgis Brown High School. This is where he met his soonto-be wife, Amber Lynn Allen. They had a daughter, Shannon, in October 1978, and were married in November 1978. Just under four years later, he had his Evelyn L. Zingery NEWCASTLE, WYO. | Evelyn L. Zingery passed away peacefully in the Manor on May 21, 2014, at the age of 91. She was surrounded and supported by her loving Zingery family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Born in 1945 in Davenport, IA, Karen was the daughter of a Lutheran Pastor. She pursued a distinguished career as a choral music teacher, a concert pianist here and abroad, and choir director of several churches including her last tenure at 1st Congregational UCC. An extraordinary piano teacher, her passion for the piano was passed along to many outstanding pupils. After college she read extensively matters both spiritual and theological. I’m thankful and humbled to have shared in that remarkable life journey! She will be sorely missed by our church family, students, walking friends and family. Karen was preceded in death by parents, Rev. Dr. Reuben Redal and Eleanor Redal. Albrandt SPOKANE, WASH. | Beulah Deloris Albrandt, 96, formerly of Sturgis, SD, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at Providence Holy Family Hospital Albrandt in Spokane. Beulah was born May 21, 1917, in Arlington, SD, to Marvin and Emma (Dahl) Erickson. She lived at Arlington until age 7, when the family moved to Blunt, SD, and later to Pierre, SD. She attended school mostly in Arlington. Beulah married Lester Stein in 1937. Beulah married Henry Albrandt on Jan. 25, 1947, in Newcastle, WY. In 1952, they left South Dakota and lived in Lansing, MI, until 1955, when they moved to the state of Washington, where they resided for 41 years. They moved back to South Dakota in 1996. Beulah moved to Spokane to live with her daughter six months ago. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Arlington and was confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Pierre. Beulah was a musician and loved to play the organ and piano. Survivors include two sons, James (Jody) Albrandt and Kenneth (Cindy) Albrandt, all of McMinnville, OR; one daughter, Kathy (Bill) Webb, Spokane; daughter-in-law, Gayle Stein, Auburn, WA; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorna Albrandt, Grand Junction, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; son, Edward; five brothers, Wayne, Kenneth, Lester, Don, and Robert Erickson; and two sisters, Audrey Schutte and Marian Hurn.
