What is Fotomarathon |
A Fotomarathon is a special photo competition, where the participants must interpret 12 themes within 12
hours and at the same time keep the overall topic in mind to make a kind of series out of the photos. The
photographic challenge lies in the limited time and the spontaneous creativity because the themes are kept
secret until the day of the Fotomarathon. The photos have to be taken in the same order as the given topics
and are not to be post-processed.

Fotomarathons have been around for over 30 years, and the idea of FM was born in 1984 in Madrid. It was a
competition where the participants had to capture a certain number of photos illustrating given topics within
a limited amount of time. This idea was so convincing that more cities followed in the coming years: 1987
New York, 1988 Stockholm, 1989 Copenhagen, 1998 Berlin and so on. Now there are about 60 cities
worldwide that hold at least one event each year.

Inspired by Fotomarathon Berlin, DNSY will be hosting a Fotomarathon (FM for short) here in Shenyang this
coming June, 2015! We are thrilled to be bringing this exciting, international event to our city.

FOTOMARATHON is a contest about cities, fun, exploration and challenges. Our Online Challenge is a variant
of the Fotomarathon Shenyang.
This online competition gives you an idea of what to expect on June, 6th in Shenyang. Please note to make
things a little easier, we have changed the rules slightly.

For the Online Challenge we will give you 4 themes and an overall topic on
Saturday, 18th of April, 9am.

Then it is up to you to take four pictures, illustrating
the four themes and making a series out of those pictures by taking the overall topic into account.
