JOSEPH R. DAWE, JR. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER & CALENDAR APRIL 2015 Dear Parents, With a school vacation this month, April will be a quick one. Coming up next Wednesday, parents will receive term two report cards. This is a great time to set a learning/work habit goal with your child based on the reported progress. If you have any questions about your child’s report card, contact the teacher. Beginning the week of April 13th, all students will take part in High Touch High Tech hands-on science lessons taught by visiting scientists. This program is an annual event that is funded by PTO fundraising efforts. All classrooms will have a 90-minute (60 minutes for kindergarten) engaging science lesson that is aligned with the science curriculum. When students return from April vacation the week of the 27th, the scientists will be back for a second exciting science lesson for every class! Thank you to our PTO and all of the families who support our PTO by participating in fundraisers to support this meaningful program. Thank you for your support! Sincerely, Mr. Barner, Principal THE DAWE SCHOOL FAIR The Annual Dawe School Fair is just two weeks away! Saturday, April 11th 10:00-2:00! Add it to the favorites on your phone, tablet, and computer to stay connected to everything that is going on at the Dawe School. STUDENT ABSENCES/TARDINESS Please remember that if your child is not going to be in school, the absence must be reported to the office each day. Call the school before 8:30 to report the absence. Sometimes, our phone lines are busy in the morning, so calling to leave a message in the middle of the night is perfectly fine. When your child returns to school, s/he must bring a note explaining the reason for the absence. Tardiness is recorded on attendance records. It is important for students to experience the morning routine in school to start the day off smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation. STUDENT COUNCIL RAISED GARDEN BEDS Thanks to Garrett McCormick who completed his project of building raised garden beds at the Dawe School earning him his Eagle Scout status, we now have four raised beds to have students plant and grow plants and vegetables in the back of the school. The Student Council will begin the planting as soon as the weather improves. Their goal is to grow flowers to decorate the school and grow vegetables to serve in the cafeteria with lunch. We’ll keep you posted on the progress! We commit to excellence in intellectual, physical, social, social, and emotional development. We respect individual differences and strive to reach our full potential.
