Reading
The sixth grade Reading students were given the opportunity this
winter to enter the 11th Annual Will McDonough Writing Contest.
The contest runs in conjunction with The Sports Museum at the
TD Garden in Boston. The students could choose from five
different writing prompts to enter. The winners were chosen by
The Globe Sports Editor, Joe Sullivan, who read the 1,200 entries
from across Massachusetts. Joseph Case Junior High had a second
place winner with Miguel Pereira's entry about his Great Uncle
Joe Jordan. Miguel won a Kindle for his writing accomplishment.
We are very proud of his work.

In grade six, we are starting our Fairy Tale Unit which is always a favorite! We are reading the
tales in their original forms adapted by the Brothers Grimm equipped with gruesome and
fascinating detail! We staged our own Hansel and Gretel candy trail, put on live action skits,
reported live from Cinderella's wedding as news reporters and plan to fracture or change the
endings to some of the beloved classics.

Math Team
We competed in our second meet on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Norton Middle School. Again
there were ten local middle schools who participated in the competition. Proudly I can
report that the JCJH team took second place again this year. In addition, for individual
placements out of 120 students Zachary Miranda placed third and Marcus Banoub placed
first overall. They worked very hard and I am very proud to be their coach. -
