Gyan Chaupal
The Department of Higher and Technical Education have taken a decision to
initiate a program of sharing experiences and best practices in regard to devising a
new policy for higher and technical education. This initiative has been named as
‘Gyan Chaupal’. The salient features of the program are as following
The chaupals will be held at divisional headquarters in the first phase and
at district headquarters in the second phase.

Officials from both the departments will visit Higher & Technical
Education Institutions (HTEI) in the State.

The chaupal will be ‘one-day' program.

The following will be invited for the chaupalo Vice
Chancellors
of
government
funded
universities
of
Division/District
o Registrars of government funded universities of Division/District.
o Chairpersons of private universities of division/district.
o Principals of Government Co-ed. Colleges (representative colleges)
o Principals of Government girls' Colleges (representative colleges)
o Principals of private Colleges (representative colleges)
o Principals of private B.Ed. Colleges (representative colleges)
o Divisional Commissioner
o District Collector(s)
o Leading Industrialists of the region.
o Other Stakeholders i.e. students, teachers, etc.

One of the leading institutions (University) from the locality where the
program is scheduled will serve as host institute.
Outline of the program

First session: The Change Leaders from H&TEI's will make presentations
about-

o
brief history,
o
courses available,
o
student strength,
o
achievements,
o
vocationalisation and skill development initiatives,
o
industry linkages,
o
budget provisions and financial status,
o
programmes offered under partnership,
o
best practices
o
community involvement in supporting H&TEI's
o
burning issues/main problems,
o
future programs
Second Session:
o
In the second session the participants will be split in to 4 to 5 group.
o
These groups will discuss issues of concern of higher education and
prepare a report/presentation.
o
These groups will have representation from universities, government
& private colleges, teacher training colleges, technical colleges, etc.
o
The issues to be discussed will be communicated to participants in
advance and if required, reading material will also be sent.
o
Third Session
o
The
groups
will
recommendations.

o Sharing best practices & experience for improvement;

o review of progress of institutions and to work in the direction of solving
problems of the institutions.

Expected outcomes
o Identifying new courses that can enhance employability.
o Curriculum revision with a view to make courses relevant to needs of
present times and to enhance employability.
o Identifying courses to train manpower as per requirement of local industries
o Measures to be taken for examination reforms
o Better communication between government and stakeholders
o Measures to be taken for capacity building of teachers.
o Identification of effective pedagogical methods

# Two Gyan Chaupal programmes have already been organized at Kota and Udaipur in which
participants from academia, administration and industry, representing different districts of the
selected division, had participated and shared their views on devising a way ahead in respect of
Higher, College and Technical Education and betterment of Higher Education in the State. The
Department of Higher Education is analyzing the suggestions received during the deliberations.
