DEMOLITION DERBY RULES AND REGULATIONS
4-6-8 CYLINDER CARS
This derby will consist of heats of 4-6-8 cylinder cars (no limousines, hearses, convertibles or Chrysler
Imperials)
1, The last two cars running will qualify for the final heat (feature). Both drivers will receive $250.
2, The audience will pick the best of show in each heat. The best of show winner will receive $175 and
will advance to the feature.
3, Feature winner will receive $1500 2nd will receive $500 Feature best of show will receive $300
4, Each night (Monday and Friday) two best painted cars will be picked winners will receive $50 each
5, Sun roofs must be covered!
6, Any cars not pre-registered MUST have driver and passenger door’s painted white. A number will be
issued at inspection.
7, 4 cylinder cars must weigh less than 3000 pounds.
SAFETY RULES
1, Driver must have a DOT approved helmet w/shield and/or goggles. Driver must have a working
seatbelt.
2, Driver must wear long pants and long sleeved shirt THIS WILL BE ENFORCED.
DRIVING RULES
1, You MUST make contact every 60 seconds, you must give not receive.
2, DO NOT hit driver’s door, if you see white DO NOT hit it. Doing so will lead to disqualification.
3,Red flag means STOP-someone is hurt or there is a fire…PAY ATTENTION!!
CAR PREPERATION
1, Absolutely NO welding is allowed anywhere on the car unless noted below. Not matter how small you
will be sent home.
2, Remove all glass, Doors must be clean and free of glass, door handles and locks. Remove all lights,
molding or anything else that may be knocked loose onto the track. Headliner and carpeting must be
removed.
3, Two metal bars at least ¼” thick must be bolted on car from front fire wall to the roof. Holes in
firewall must be covered with metal.
4, FUEL TANKS: The gas tank may be relocated and the original must be removed. If gas tanks are left in
original position the must be cabled or chained. The relocated tank may be moved to the inside of the
car, forward of the rear wheels and behind the front seat. A firewall must be provided. It must be
secured with chain, cable or ready strap NO RATCHET, RUBBER STRAPS OR WIRE. No plastic cans or 5
gallon round metal gas cans will be allowed for gas tanks. All fuel tanks must be FULLY accessible for
inspection and must have gas cap. You must cover the fuel tank. All electric fuel pumps must have
separate shut-off switch mounted to the dash CLEARLY MARKED “FUEL”. DECISIONS OF THE OFFICIALS
WILL BE FINAL!
5, REAR ENDS: Rear differentials may be locked or welded for posi-traction. Rear ends must be from a
passenger automobile.
6, Drivers and passenger door may be welded with a maximum 12 inches on each seam (fender,
backside and bottom). Remaining doors must be chained or wired shut. You must install a maximum 3
inch pipe or tube channel iron behind the drivers seat from side to side for safety reasons only.
Maximum 6 inch square plate at each end may be welded in or must have 4 bolts in each plate
7, There will be a “H Bar” and “Dash Bar” allowed. Dimensions 3 inch min/max, round or square 1/8”
thick steel with 6”x6” min/max end plates welded or bolted (4 bolts in each plate) Side bars will be
permitted with dimensions 3 inch min/max, round or square 1/8” thick steel welded from front and rear
bar not to extend past front and rear bar. Bars MUST run parallel in car. No other welding on bars will
be permitted!
8, Hood and trunk must be chained or wired shut in 4 places only after inspection. Hood and trunk may
be wired or chained through bumpers in two of these holes.
9. Motor mounts and transmission mounts may be wired, chained or welded.
10, TIRES: Any DOT approved standard road tire will be allowed with NO aggressive tread on drive
wheels. All wheel weights must be removed.
11, BUMPERS: No special bumpers or any reinforcements will be allowed. Curved ends of the front
bumpers may be cut off. You may re-bolt the bumper using same size bolts in existing holes or weld the
bumper to the frame or mounts, no bumper shocks-snub nose only. Each bumper is allowed to be
welded 6” maximum with NO ADDED METAL.
12, Fender wells may be cut for clearance but NOT welded, rolled or re-attached for strength.
13, Shifting linkage may be hooked up directly to the transmission, shifter handle must be safe
14, Electrical system hot wires may be installed.
15,There must be two 6”x6” openings in hood, one on either side for fore dept access. Hood holes may
be cut out but no folding, rolling or reinforcing through the hood.
16, Exhaust may be exited through the hood.
17, BODY MOUNTS: Factory positioned body mounts must remain in stock position and stock mounts.
No painting or undercoating the frame. No cold bending, peening of body or seam welding of frame.
18, If your car has anything on it that did not come from factory (distributor protectors, engine cradles,
pulley protectors, rear-end braces ect.) it MUST be removed unless noted in rules.
19, Slide drive shafts will be allowed and steering columns must have ONE universal joint added.
20, SUSPENSIONS: Suspensions must be stock, no added leaf springs or heavier than stock to that
vehicle coil springs. Coil springs may be tack welded or wired in place. Car MUST sit at stock height (max
22” from the ground to center of the stock front or rear bumper). No welding on suspensions.
21, RADIATORS: Radiators or cooling devices must be in original position with NO reinforcements or
welding BOLTED ONLY and must have a pressure relief cap. No antifreeze will be allowed—WATER
ONLY.
22, BATTERIES: Batteries and transmission coolers may be relocated inside car. Batteries must be secure
and fuel and electric lines must run through fire wall and be protected.
23, Unobserved items escaping detection during inspection does not make them legal. Nonconformance to the rules will be called illegal. At the end of the feature the winning cars will be reinspected on the track before prize money and trophy are awarded. Any participant who violates the
intent of The Delaware County Fair rules shall be considered to have engaged in unsportsmanlike
conduct and will result in forfeiture of prize money and trophy and will also result in a 1 year suspension
from the derby. Cars must conform to the rules listed above. Driver will have one chance to correct any
issues found in primary inspection, after that the car will not be allowed to run. COMMON SENCE
PREVAILS, THE DECISION OF THE OFFICIALS WILL BE FINAL!
24, THERE WILL BE A $100 PROTEST FEE, THE FEE WILL BE CHARGED FOR EACH ITEM PROTESTED.
DRIVER ENTRY
1, Drivers must be 16 yrs of age and must have parental permission.
2, Drivers not obeying the rules will be disqualified.
3, One person per car will be allowed-DRIVERS ONLY and there will be NO switching numbers.
4, For insurance reasons no one under the age of 16 will be allowed in the pit area.
