In line with the Worldwide Celebration of 2015 as the Year of Light, two Scientists from Australian National University (ANU) will conduct a Workshop on Light on April 28-30, 2015 at the Central Visayan Institute Foundation, Jagna. 2. Three lectures are designed for teachers and students for Dynamic Learning Program (DLP) implementing schools. Follow-up of the Workshop will be the design of DLP-style Optics Learning Activities aligned with the K-12 Curriculum. 3. A registration fee of Five Hundred Pesos (Php 500.00) will be collected each participant to defray expenses arising from the conduct of the workshop, these include morning and afternoon snacks and the 3-day lectures. (Please see attached invitation letter for details.) 4. All secondary schools are enjoined to send participants to this workshop. 5. Expenses incurred relative to the par ticipation of the said workshop are chargeable against school MOOE, SEF, and other local funds subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations. 6. The activity aims to benefit science teachers and students of schools implementing the CVIF Dynamic Learning Program (DLP) especially those in the Department of Education, Division of Bohol. The workshop includes: @ General laser show exploring ideas and concepts in an interactive way @ A session on teaching the wave concept with low cost materials @ Polarization and lecture demonstrations using an optics kit from the Optical Society of America Foundation @ Demonstrations with laser pointers and LEDs with low cost material from Australia @ Curricular Integration ofworkshop activities with CVIF-DLP learning activity sheets. LECTURERS: Prof. Hans-A. Bachor is Professor Emeritus of Quantum Optics at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. Prof. Bachor holds an international reputation for research teaching in quantum optics and has extensive experience in public outreach in Australia. He is currently a consultant at Questacon (Australia's National Science and Technology Centre) in their travelling exhibitions where he gives lectures on lasers. Dr. Vincent Daria is a fellow at the John Curtin Medical School at the Australian National University. He received his PhD in Applied Physics from Osaka University, Japan, and undergraduate degree from the University of the Philippines. He had extensive research experience in optics during his postdoctoral work in Denmark. He is presently Team Leader of the Neurophotonics Group ofthe ANU College ofMedicine, Biology and Environment. WORKSHOP SITE The Research Center for Theoretical Physics (RCTP), Central Visayan Institute Foundation, is located in the small coastal town of Jagna in the southern part of the island province of Bohol. Situated in the Central Visayas Region of the Philippines, this island is known for its white beaches, snorkeling and diving sites, the Tarsier, Chocolate Hills, scenic rivers, as well as its rich cultural and historical heritage. The town of Jagna has a port which connects it to several neighboring provinces by sea. Jagna is 63 km (lhr-15min-drive) from Tagbilaran, the capital of Bohol.
