March 2015 Volunteer Newsletter “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” ~Arthur Ashe SAVE THE DATE! Mark your calendars and join us April 10 for our Volunteer Appreciation & End of Season Party! We will meet at the Chaparral Ice Cream Parlor at 5:30 pm. Please RSVP to the Webb Center Box Office at 928-684-6624, no later than March 30, so we can have an accurate attendance count for Pam and Tony. We need to let them know how much space we will need, and of course how much wonderful food to have for us. And of course there will be other social activities planned! We hope you will join us as we wrap up our season! There will be more to come… FEBRUARY’S TRIVIA ANSWER: ALPIN HONG! Nicole has been a volunteer for the Webb Center since 2006. Nicole was nominated by her peers for doing an outstanding job training the “rookies.” She has great hints on how to make a patron’s visit to the Webb Center more special. She exhibits patience with the new volunteers and one can always learn something from her. Thank you Nicole for all your work! 2001 W. Wickenburg Way Suite 3 Wickenburg, AZ 85390 Hours: M-F 9am – 5pm Don’t forget to nominate your fellow volunteers for Volunteer of the Month! The nomination slips and box are located on the desk in the Volunteer Room at the Webb Center! dewpac.org (928) 684-6624 Another Volunteer Opportunity! Once again the Scottsdale League for the Arts will host the Great Arizona Picnic on April 11-12! The proceeds benefit the arts and arts education programs throughout the valley. Last year we had 4 volunteers sign up representing the Webb Center. They will waive the required training for us since we participated last year, and the training date conflicts with Guys Who Grill. If you’re interested please check out http://scottsdalefest.org/volunteer. Then fill out the form with the following info: Co./Group/School: Del E Webb Center for the Performing Arts Referred by: Stephanie Fornoff Comments: Volunteered in 2014 selling tickets in the Beer Garden Preferred Time Slot: Sunday 11am-5:45pm Volunteer Area: Ticket Booths Once we know how many would like to attend we can work on car-pooling. There is food, music and fun to be had by all! **Please make your schedule changes with Blaise at the Box Office. I will be sending out your schedules monthly and then you will receive a follow-up. This is to ensure there is not any miscommunication and we all have our schedules correct! **Upon reporting to the Volunteer Room for each show, please make sure that you get your name badge, vest, flashlights, and gloves (if you wish) then please move out into Atrium for team meeting (we only have 30 minutes to go over assignments before the doors open to public). Please, under no circumstances are you to go into the “House” until it is cleared by Technical Director Tim Huff. No patrons are to be in Lobby prior to clearance sweep. Only circumstance would be if they came with you and then are to be seated in the gray chairs next to door, until cleared. DRESS CODE CLARIFICATION Volunteer Dress Code: It has been brought to our attention that there is confusion or mis-interpretation of the dress code in the Volunteer Handbook. The handbook simply states, “Volunteers should “dress up” in BLACK and WHITE in a manner appropriate for the event. Black pants/knee-length skirts or longer, white blouses for the ladies and white collared shirts for men. Black, closed toed shoes are required. Attire should be freshly pressed.” The intent with the handbook was to put a parameter, while broad, to allow the Volunteers to wear attire that is suited to their body, however, appropriate and professional. There has never been a sleeve length requirement. Some ladies blouses do not have collars, but may have ruffles, v-necks, lace inserts etc. Only the men’s shirts are required to have collars. Most blouses and all shirts are made to be tucked in, but in some cases there are blouses with finished edges that are intended to be left out. When it is obvious that the blouse is not intended to be “left out” then you may be asked to please tuck it in. Again, as a staff, we do not want/wish to “police” the Volunteers, and we do not want individuals to “police” their fellow volunteers. Our request is that you look professional and put together. We hope this helps with any concerns or questions. Feel free to speak with Blaise in the Box Office if you are still “unsure” if something is appropriate or if you need ask for special accommodations due to medical reasons. 2001 W. Wickenburg Way Suite 3 Wickenburg, AZ 85390 Hours: M-F 9am – 5pm dewpac.org (928) 684-6624 Are you interested in being CPR certified? The Webb Center will once again be partnering up with the Wickenburg Fire Department for CPR certifications. The certification is good for 2 years, and the class cost is reduced to a special volunteer rate of $25. Spouses and friends are welcome. We are taking names of those interested, and if there is enough we will get back to you with a time and date. The class generally runs about 2 hours. We had great participation last year, and it is a worthwhile training. You never know whose life you may have to save… Please contact Blaise at the Box Office, 928-684-6624, to get your name on the interest list. [REGGIE’S CORNER] Well here we are, it’s March already and things are running a lot more smoothly, as everyone is becoming more familiar with the positions. As a reminder, we will always have patrons entering the wrong doors so please just take them to their seats. We had a first at the February 23 performance of Lily Tomlin. We had a full house and everyone was in and seated by the start of the show…no late people! We did have an incident that I would like to share so that we may make some adjustments and heighten our awareness. About 10-15 minutes into the show, two people tried to enter the upper house doors on the left side. As I came along, they said they wanted to stand and watch for a bit. I told them it was not allowed and that they needed to come out. I thought they would follow me out into the atrium, but they went down and out the left elbow door. We do not know how they got in, but from now on the upper house door ushers who “mingle,” I will need two of you to be close to the ticket-takers to watch for people who may get by in the rush without handing in tickets. Ticket-takers, we can tighten down the area around the entrances, and please do not get distracted by patrons. Refer them to the Volunteers who are around you to answer questions and seek directions. See you at the next show… ~Reggie 2001 W. Wickenburg Way Suite 3 Wickenburg, AZ 85390 Hours: M-F 9am – 5pm dewpac.org (928) 684-6624
