What is scholastic standing?
• Describes the general performance of a student for every
semester.
• At the end of every semester, students are required to
check their grades and scholastic status to determine if
they are eligible to enroll on the following semester.

Good Scholastic Standing
• Final Grade of “3” or better in at least 75% of the total
number of academic units at the end of each semester
• Example: If you enrolled a total of 20 units, you must pass at least 15
units in order to have Good Scholastic Standing.

Good Scholastic Standing:
Honorific Scholarships
• University Scholarship: GWA of 1.45 or better; US’ are
listed in the Chancellor's List of Scholars.
• College Scholarship: GWA of 1.75 or better; CS’ are
listed in the Dean's List of Scholars.
• Additional requirements:
• at least 15 units of academic credit or the normal load
prescribed
• no grade below 3 in any academic or non-academic
subject

Good Scholastic Standing:
Honorific Scholarships
• Last for one semester, renewable for the succeeding
semester, if the student meets the prescribed conditions.
• Do not entitle the holders to any tuition fee waiver, either
partial or full.

Scholastic Delinquency
1. Warning
• A student who, at the end of the semester fails to obtain
final grades of ‘3’ or better in 25% to 49% of the total
number of academic units in which s/he is registered shall
be warned by the Dean to improve her/his work.
• Example: If you enrolled a total of 20 units, and you only passed a
number of units above 10 but less than 15, you would be considered
delinquent and will be issued a Warning.

2. Probation
• A student who, at the end of the semester, fails to obtain
final grades of ‘3’ or better in 50% to 75% of the total
number of academic units in which s/he is registered shall
be placed on probation for the succeeding semester and
her/his load shall be limited to the extent to be determined
by the Dean.
• Example: If you enrolled a total of 20 units, and you only passed 5 to
10 units, you would be considered delinquent and will placed in
Probation.
• The student will be removed from Probation if s/he
passed more than 50% of her/his total number of units at
the end of the succeeding semester.

3. Dismissal
a) A student who, at the end of the semester, fails to
obtain final grades of ‘3’ or better in two takes in any
of the subjects listed below shall be dismissed from
the College.

b) A student who, at the end of the semester, fails to
obtain final grades of ‘3’ or better in more than 75%
but less than 100 % of the total number of academic
units in which s/he is registered shall be dismissed
from the college.

Example: If you enrolled a total of 20 units, and you only passed
1 to 4 units, you would be considered delinquent and will

c) A student on probation in accordance with Rule 2
who, at the end of the semester, fails to obtain final
grades of ‘3’ or better in 50% or more of the total
number of academic units in which s/he is
registered shall be dismissed from the College.

Example: If you are in Probation and you enrolled a total of 20
units, but you failed 10 or more units, you would be considered
delinquent and will Dismissed from the College.

3. Dismissal
d) A student who, at the beginning of the first semester
of a school year, has 36 academic units or more
to pass before graduation and who enrolls in two
semesters or two semesters and one summer, must
obtain final grades of ‘3’ or better in at least 24
academic units creditable to her/his curriculum, for
that school year; otherwise s/he shall be dismissed
from the College.

e) A student who, at the beginning of the first semester
of a school year, has 36 academic units or more
to pass before graduation and who completes
only one semester or one semester and one
summer, must obtain final grades of ‘3’ or better in
at least 50% of the academic units creditable to
her/his curriculum that s/he is registered in for that
school year; otherwise s/he shall be dismissed from
the College.

4. Permanent Disqualification
• A student who, at the end of the semester, fails to obtain
final grades of ‘3’ or better in 100% of the total number
of academic units in which s/he is registered (referred to
as ‘zero passing’) shall be permanently barred from
readmission to the College.

STUDENT MENTORING
AND ADVISING
Purpose of Student Mentoring and Advising
• To guide the students academically and closely monitor
their individual performance
• To ensure that the students are coping well with the
demands and requirements of college education,
especially for incoming freshmen (minimize culture
shock!)
• To extend assistance in making sure that the student are
taking the right decisions (not limited to academics) during
their stay in the department

Faculty-Student Advising Policies
Adviser’s Role
• Provides means of communication (email, sms)
• Communicates with his/her Advisees at least thrice a
semester
• Acts as the Adviser during registration period (preadvise, post-advise)
• Provides reasonable assistance related to academic
concerns and issues
• Monitors all the subjects taken by the Advisee
• Maintains an updated copy of grades of the Advisee
• Evaluates the academic performance of the Advisee

Advisee’s Role
• Communicates with his/her Adviser at least thrice per

• Considers suggestions of Adviser
• Expresses difficulties and concerns to Adviser

• Chooses one (1) laboratory and one (1) Undergraduate
Research adviser during 5th year, upon consultation with
his/her Adviser

Faculty-Student Advising Policies
Assignment of Advisers and their Advisees
• Advisee shall have the same Adviser until 4 th year (or
5th year for enrollment concerns) except for the
following situations:
1. Non-availability of the adviser due to studies abroad,
resignation and other uncontrollable circumstances;
2. Disagreement and issues between the Adviser and
Advisee.
• In the case there is an Adviser-Advisee issues and problems,
the Adviser or Advisee shall inform the Department Chair
through a formal letter stating the issues and concerns.
• From the merits of the Adviser/ Advisee concerns, the
Department Chair shall decide the re-assignment of the
Advisee to other faculty
