Hope your holidays were filled with the best of everything; and wish you and your families a very Happy New Year. Several PCL Board members worked through the holiday season preparing letters of information, application forms and invitations for the upcoming Police and Fire Award Dinner which you should receive about the same time you receive this newsletter or shortly thereafter. Please read through the information and share it with your club members. Also included in the mailing is information in regard to placing ads in the Police and Fire Award Banquet Program Book. We would like to encourage all Clubs to consider placing an ad in the book, even if it is a smaller one. Not only do these ads financially support the Award Banquet but they also support and recognize the efforts of the agencies of your local community by you, the local individual Lions club. We thank everyone who has placed an ad in the past and appreciate everyone’s consideration and participation in placing an ad in this year’s program. Through the efforts of PCL Treasurer and Palo Alto Host Lions Club Past President Nick Marinaro we have engaged Dr. Ellen Kirschman Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and author, as this year’s Police and Fire Award Banquet Key Note Speaker. Dr. Kirschman is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Society for the Study of Police and Criminal Psychology, the American Psychological Association, and the International Association of Women in Law Enforcement. Among her many achievements for her distinguished contribution to the practice of police and public safety psychology, she is the recipient of the California Psychological Association's 2014 award. She is the author of the award winning I Love a Cop: What Police Families Need to Know, I Love a Fire Fighter: What the Family Needs to Know, and lead author of Counseling Cops: What Clinicians Need to Know (2013). Her debut novel, Burying Ben: A Dot Meyerhoff Mystery (2013) is about police suicide told from the perspective of the psychologist. We are extremely honored to have engaged Dr. Kirschman and look forward to her presentation. Only the Club President or their designated representative will be eligible to vote; giving each club ONE vote. This discussion and vote is in response to it becoming more and more difficult to find a venue that can offer a menu cost of $25.00 or less per person. This change, if passed, will go into effect next year. I also want to impress upon you the importance of an “RSVP” to attend our dinner meetings. We want as many of you who can join us, however, in order to have enough food and table settings, we need your cooperation in letting us know you will be there. John has made making a reservation very easy- just a “click away.” So “click away,” give him a call or drop him an email-please! It would make all our lives much easier! I look forward to seeing you at the January meeting in Burlingame. TO SEEK success and to demand all fair remuneration of profit for my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my own self respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part. TO REMEMBER that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down others. To be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself. WHENEVER a doubt arises as the right or ethics of my position of action towards my fellow man, to resolve such doubt against myself. TO HOLD friendship as end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but true friendship demands nothing but accepts ser- vice in the true spirit in which it is given. ALWAYS bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my un- swerving loyalty in word, act as deed; to give them freely of my time, labor and means. TO AID my fellow man by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy. TO BE careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise. To build up and not destroy. LIONS OBJECTIVES TO CREATE and foster a spirit of “GENEROUS CONSIDERATION” among the peoples of the world through a study of the problems of international relationship. TO PROMOTE the theory and practice of the principles of good government and good citizenship. TO TAKE an active interest in the civic, social, and moral welfare of the community. TO UNITE the members in the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding. TO PROVIDE a forum for the full and free discussion of all matters of public interest, partisan politics and sectarian religion alone excepted. TO ENCOURAGE efficacy and promote high ethical standards and professions: provided that no club shall hold out as one of its objects financial benefits to its members This Bulletin is published by PCL Secretary/Bulletin Editor PDG Mike Simonini.
