CS 585 Spring 2015 Homework 6: “scale” Final Presentation Prep Overview Final presentations are scheduled for Tuesday 5 May at 1pm (the final exam period for this class) in the Hardymon Theater of the Davis Marksbury Building. The order of presentation will be determined at the beginning of the session. Details The final presentation serves to explain project goals, outcomes, and the process of how those goals and outcomes were produced. Your presentation should be done jointly with your project partners based on your preference for how you wish to divide the discussion. Include (at least) the following elements in your presentation: 1. Project overview [what is the overall problem / challenge you took on in this project?] 2. Approach [how did you approach the problem?] 3. Details [show the design architecture and discuss a few implementation details. Show and give a brief review / walk-‐through of at least one crucial section of code you wrote] 4. Results [present your results and show enough examples to cover what you did. Make sure you discuss the issue of scale – give numbers] 5. Challenges [discuss the major roadblocks and how you did / did not overcome them] 6. Future work / open questions [quick discussion of anything curious that came up during your work that might be worth pursuing, or any interesting questions you’d still like to answer] 7. Conclusions [what you learned – make some summary statements about what you discovered by implementing this project. Something surprising in the data? Something about the design / implementation? Etc.] Presentation rules / format: you will have 20 minutes for presentation time plus at most 10 minutes of Q&A at the end. Time limits will be strict. Plan to use the theater’s projector – presentations will be open to the public. Your presentation will be graded based on clarity and organization as well as quality of your project design and results. You group project results will also be assessed according to the three ABET rubrics (attached): C (Design), D (Teamwork), and F (Communication). Turning in your Work Make sure you include the presentation materials in your zip file for project submission. One designated group member should upload a single zip file via the CS portal for this class (link on the class website) by the final exam period on Tuesday May 5. Rubric C (modified) ABET Rubric (C): student demonstrates an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability Score Assessment Categories Problem Design Space Decisions Results Discussion 4 (Outstanding) 3 (Good) 2 (Partial) Clear, full problem understanding.
