WHAT IS THE STAR PROGRAM?
Interested in getting in and getting out of College faster? Have the desire to major in
Psychology, Business, or Pre-Nursing? Want to avoid getting waitlisted for your classes?
The STAR Program at Coastline Community College uses a cohort-based model in the three
majors of Business, Psychology, and Pre-Nursing to make you a part of a community of
learners and help you transfer to a 4-year university. To have the highest possibility of
success, we are providing these services as a result of you joining the STAR Program:

NOTE: You must be graduating from High School by June 2015 in order to qualify for the
STAR program.

Coastline Community College STAR Program Participation Agreement
Student Success and Transfer Program
I understand that the Coastline Community College STAR Program is designed to support my college and university success in
completing a transfer degree and/or certificate. By remaining in good standing (please see below) in the program I am eligible to
receive:



Guaranteed enrollment into all of the courses included on my comprehensive Student Education Plan.
Academic, personal, and career counseling each semester, including the development of a comprehensive Student Education
Plan and the support I need to understand and follow that plan.
STAR activities, support services, and events designed to provide the information and support I need to complete my
educational goals at Coastline Community College.
I understand that to remain in good standing in the STAR Program, I agree to the following:








I will identify my educational goals and major to determine which classes I need to take when I enter the program.
I will maintain full-time enrollment (12 or more units) per semester, based on my Student Education Plan, so that I can
accomplish my educational goals such as earning an associate’s degree, transferring to a four-year college, and/or completing
a certificate. For any changes to my educational plan, I will see a counselor to ensure my continued academic success.
I will take my English and math courses during my first semesters at Coastline Community College so that I have the skills I
need to be successful in all of my other college courses.
I will enroll in the Counseling 105 success course (general education course) designed to identify my needs, as a student and to
connect me with resources and support.
I will maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA and complete at least 75% of the courses I take each semester. If necessary, I agree to
participate in academic intervention activities to regain my good standing.
I will adhere to all Coastline Community College’s policies related to academic progress, financial aid, and other Coastline
Community College requirements.
I will communicate with my STAR counselor, tutor, and/or faculty regularly to get the support I need both academically and
personally.
I will participate in activities, support services, and events provided by the STAR Program that supports my academic goals.
I hereby agree to all the terms of the STAR program (listed above) and understand that if I do not fulfill my responsibilities
as a STAR student I maybe dropped from the program. I also authorize the release of my high school academic records to
the STAR Program from my School District for the purpose of following my academic progress and to assist with the
design, alternative assessment, evaluation, and improvement of the STAR Program once I have signed the agreement to
the program.
