Lutheran Church of Hope

And he shall reign forever!
Alleluia!
The Resurrection of Our Lord
Celebrated at
Lutheran Church of Hope, 2015
From Our Lead Pastor
Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Welcome to Resurrection Sunday at Lutheran Church of Hope, and I
am glad that you are here worshipping with us today! Today we celebrate the ‘hoped-reality’
that is indeed the steadfast anchor of our lives, in the resurrection from the dead of Jesus the
Christ.
If you are visiting with us or it is your first time here at Lutheran Church of Hope, we welcome
you on this special day; and it is our hope and prayer that God’s grace in the resurrection will
surprise you in a new way today!
Easter is all about what God has done in raising Jesus Christ from the dead. Today, God acts in
grace for you, because God loves you so much! No wonder why it is a day to celebrate, for we
have been redeemed; and with the victory over death, we too will be raised on the day when the
last trumpet shall sound.
If you are new to the faith or it is your first time ever to church and/or Easter Sunday, and you
have questions about the faith and/or the church, I personally invite you to contact me at
[email protected] and I will gladly meet you for a cup of coffee or other beverage and listen to
your questions and have conversations about what God is up to in the world.
You are invited to Easter Breakfast this morning in our Fellowship Hall directly across our
gathering space from the Nave. A free-will offering is being taken at the breakfast supporting
our middle and high school youth who will be traveling to the ELCA Youth Gathering this
summer in Detroit, Michigan.
On behalf of the entire congregation of Lutheran Church of Hope, its staff, its ministry leaders,
the congregation council, and the board of trustees, we wish you a very blessed Easter Season!
Christ is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!
The Rev. Dr. Scott R. McAnally +

the life of the church and the new life we receive through God’s mercy and love.)

In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no
secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy
Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
Silence is kept for reflection.
P
C
Most merciful God,
we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned
against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we
have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not
loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have
mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your
will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
P
In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake
God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of
Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all
your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen. Thanks be to God!

NICENE CREED
We recite an ancient creed of the church that reflects our understanding of God as creator, redeemer, and
sustainer. Christians all over the world and through time and space recite a similar creed with us.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,*
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
A Confident that the resurrection of Christ has defeated sin and death, we offer our
prayers for the church, the world, and all people in need.

Celebrating the resurrection as a beginning, Holy God, inspire each one of us,
young and old, to go and tell the good news throughout the world in our daily
lives. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
On this day of peace, we pray for the nations of the world, their leaders and
citizens. Envelop leaders with an urgent and deep desire for dialog working
towards peace rather than isolation and violence. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
On this Holy day as we celebrate the resurrection of your Son, we pray for all the
creatures and people of your creation. Help us, Lord, to protect and preserve the
gifts of water, sun, forests, oceans, deserts, and all the diversity of this world you
entrusted with us to provide for us, as well as all the animals that you placed here
with us. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
We celebrate your holy supper today around a new altar-table for our
congregation. May we always remember the sacrifice your Son made for us each
and every time we gather around it to be fed by your unconditional grace and
love. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
Holy God, You wipe away the tears of all who cry to you in distress. Bring peace
to those who are afraid; protect those who are vulnerable; bring healing to all who
suffer in mind, body, or spirit, especially those who we name aloud or in the
silence of our hearts. A pause. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
On this Easter morning when you conquered all sin and death, you provided a
covenant of everlasting life to all who believed in you. Let us celebrate the lives of
all the saints who have gone before us and now live out that promise of eternal life
with you. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
15
P
C
Holy God, by the death and resurrection of your Son, you have granted new life,
abundant renewal and salvation. Hear our prayers for the sake of the one who has
set us free, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
THE SHARING OF THE EASTER PEACE
As forgiven people, we share the peace of Christ with one another.
P The peace of Christ be with you always.
C And also with you.
The ministers and congregation may greet one another with a gesture of peace, using these or similar
words:
Peace be with you.
Please be seated.
THE EASTER OFFERING

C
Let us pray together.
Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us
with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and
generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen
17
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
We begin our table liturgy by greeting one another in ancient song and offering our thanks to God. The
presiding minister sings or speaks the Proper Preface, a prayer that reflects our thanks and praise and joins
our song to the song of heaven. For the festive meal, the presiding minister wears a chasuble, a flowing
poncho-like vestment over the alb and stole, symbolizing that the meal is for all people.
THE EASTER PREFACE
P It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times… we praise
your name and join their unending hymn:
18
THE SANCTUS
The Holy, Holy or “SANCTUS” is an ancient song that connects our hymn of praise to that of all the saints
and angels through all the ages.
THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
The presider speaks holy words, recalling the Gospel story of Jesus sharing a holy meal with his followers.
Jesus Christ is present in, with, and under these elements.
P
You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God. You are most holy, and great is
the majesty of your glory.
You so loved the world that you gave your only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.
We give you thanks for his coming into the world to fulfill for us your holy will
and to accomplish all things for our salvation.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given
for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink,
saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people
for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
19
For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the
Lord's death until he comes.
Remembering, therefore, his salutary command, his life-giving passion and death,
his glorious resurrection and ascension, and the promise of his coming again, we
give thanks, to you, O Lord God almighty, not as we ought but as we are able; we
ask you mercifully to accept our praise and thanksgiving and with your Word and
Holy Spirit to bless us, your servants, and these your own gifts of bread and wine,
so that we and all who share in the body and blood of Christ may be filled with
heavenly blessing and grace, and, receiving the forgiveness of sin, may be formed
to live as your holy people and be given our inheritance with all your saints.
To you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory in your holy
church, now and forever.
20
THE LORD’S PRAYER
We pray together, holding hands, the prayer Our Lord taught to his disciples.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
INVITATION TO HOLY COMMUNION

center of each tray.
Prayer ministers will be available during Holy Communion on either side of the chancel to the sides of each
communion station, for individual prayers of concern, support, and/or thanksgiving. Simply go to them after
