Christ, whose glory fills the skies
p. 355
Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.
Gloria in excelsis
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.
Hymnal S-280
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Collect of the Day
p. 215
Response: And also with you.
1 Samuel 3:1-10
Response: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 139:1-5, 12-17
LORD, you have searched me out
and known me; *
you know my sitting down and my rising up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You trace my journeys and my resting-places *
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, *
but you, O LORD, know it altogether.
You press upon me behind and before *
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; *
it is so high that I cannot attain to it.
For you yourself created my inmost parts; *
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I will thank you because
I am marvelously made; *
your works are wonderful, and I know it well.
My body was not hidden from you, *
while I was being made in secret
and woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes beheld my limbs,
yet unfinished in the womb;
all of them were written in your book; *
they were fashioned day by day,
when as yet there was none of them.
How deep I find your thoughts, O God! *
how great is the sum of them!
If I were to count them, they would be more in
number than the sand; *
to count them all, my life span would need to be
like yours.
1 Corinthians 6:12-20
Response: Thanks be to God.
Hymn 178, v. 1
Alleluia, alleluia
John 1:43-51
First response: Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Second response: Praise to you, Lord Christ.
Sermon
The Rev. Jason Wells
Nicene Creed
p. 358
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that
is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only
Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, of one
Being with the Father. Through him all
things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate
from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On
the third day he rose again in accordance
with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have
no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the
giver of life, who proceeds from the Father
and the Son. With the Father and the Son he
is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken
through the Prophets. We believe in one holy
catholic and apostolic Church. We
acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness
of sins. We look for the resurrection of the
dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
Prayers of the People
Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
Confession of Sin p. 352
Let us confess our sins against God and our
neighbor.
Most merciful God, we confess that we have
sinned against you in thought, word, and
deed, by what we have done, and by what we
have left undone. We have not loved you with
our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we
humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in
your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
Offertory
Hymn 324
Let all mortal flesh keep silence
Eucharistic Prayer A
p. 361
Therefore, we proclaim the mystery of faith,
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
Lord’s Prayer
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us,
we are bold to say,
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Breaking of the Bread
Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.
Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.
Communion
Hymn 304
I come with joy to meet my Lord
Closing Prayer
Holy, holy, holy
Hymnal S-129
Let us pray.
God of abundance, you have fed us with the
bread of life and cup of salvation; you have
united us with Christ and one another; and
you have made us one with all your people in
heaven and on earth. Now send us forth in
the power of your Spirit, that we may proclaim your redeeming love to the world and
continue for ever in the risen life of Christ our
Savior. Amen.

PRAYER NEEDS
Diocesan Cycle of Prayer
St. Stephen’s Church, Pittsfield
Super Bowl fever is building up. Hosting a party? Getting together with friends? Consider conducting a small fund-raiser or
taking a special collection for “Souper Bowl” Sunday to benefit
The Friendly Kitchen.
Some of the ideas gleaned from other groups include: soup kettle or other container for contributions during social hour(s);
special plate collection in Church; soup-sale - hot or to-go;
homemade goodie sale such as superbowl party munchies.
In 2014, we served 59,101 meals. The Friendly Kitchen guests
are working parents whose jobs don’t pay enough to make ends
meet. They are elders and people with disabilities on Social Security. They are members of our community. And they are hungry.
Funds raised will help us buy food in bulk for our volunteers to
cook and serve to our guests. It will help us to keep the hot
chocolate and coffee flowing for our guests during the cold winter months. And these gifts help us to keep the building open,
warm and welcome for all of our guests every day.
Contributions to the Friendly Kitchen qualify as charitable deductions. Any checks should be payable to the “Friendly Kitchen” and mailed to: PO Box 373, Concord 03302. If a donor
needs a record for cash contributions, please furnish the donor’s
name, address and amount and we will send a receipt for tax
purposes.
Thank you for supporting The Friendly Kitchen. Together we
will feed the hungry.
