SBR Broadleaf scrub: Notelaea – Pomaderris – Beyeria forest facies
Community Description:
Broadleaf scrub may develop into forests reaching 8 – 12 m in height in long unburnt situations. This
vegetation is usually dominated by one or more of the tree species Notelaea ligustrina, Pomaderris
apetala, and Beyeria viscosa. These forests have a relatively closed canopy cover and open
understorey. Rare emergent taller trees may be present and represented by Acacia melanoxylon,
Callitris rhomboidea and occasional eucalypt species found in adjacent forests e.g. Eucalyptus globulus,
E. obliqua, E. viminalis and E. dalrympleana. Sites with a higher capacity to retain soil moisture often
have emergent trees of Atherosperma moschatum. This benchmark is one of 2 benchmarks available
to assess the condition of SBR and is used to assess the mature expression of this vegetation. It is
the appropriate benchmark to use in assessing the condition of the listed Notelaea-Pomaderris-Beyeria
forest community (Schedule 3A, Nature Conservation Act 2002).
