Greenmont Gator Gazette (G3): May, 2015 “Home of the Gators!” Please be sure to visit our website: http://dracutps.org/greenmont-avenue-school A Message from Mr. B Greetings Greenmont Families! Can you believe that spring is finally here?! Here’s to hoping our spring and summer are fantastic! We definitely earned it after the long winter we endured and the April vacation rain we had to put up with. A very big thank you to all who made our 25th annual Grandparent Luncheon such a huge success. What a wonderful day! On Wednesday, May 6th, we will join other schools across the Commonwealth for “Walk/Bike to School Day.” This is obviously completely up to parents/guardians. Any students who ride a bike to school will be allowed to keep it in the gym for the day. Please be on the lookout for a survey from the MA Department of Transportation. If we get enough families to complete this brief survey, the DOT will give our school a cash prize! Our third, fourth and fifth grade students will tackle the MCAS test once more this month as they each take sessions one and two of the Mathematics Test. Our fifth graders will also take two sessions of the Science/Technology MCAS test. Please see the box below to be reminded of the testing dates for each grade. It was so great to see so many of our fathers and daughters at the Princess Dance on April 10th. Everyone had a great time. Our thanks to the PTO for all of their hard work in making sure that everything went smoothly. One of the very important things that takes place every May is Teacher Appreciation Week. This will occur from Monday, May 4th – Friday, May 8th. While we are all very appreciative of the teachers and staff at Greenmont, this is a time to really tell them and show them how grateful we truly are for how caring, dedicated and incredibly hard working they all are. Without their honesty, expertise, and love, we would not be the incredible school that we are! While our families and PTO do a wonderful job of showering our teachers with love during this week, it is important for the children themselves to show their appreciation too. A simple “thank you” or a homemade card goes a long way. Please help us to make this a great week for our teachers and staff. Also occurring this week is National School Nurse’s day on Wednesday, May 6th. Our thanks to all for making Administrative Professional’s day (on April 22nd) so special. Another important event is our annual Memorial Day Assembly. Students will host Dracut’s veterans on May 22nd. We will also be participating in Dracut’s annual Memorial Day Parade as well. Please look for information about these events to come home with students within the next couple of weeks. You should have received your parent/guardian (placement) information sheet with this newsletter. This optional form is due back to your child’s teacher(s) by Friday, May 29th. If you have any questions please let us know. We value your input and use your thoughts along with our professional expertise to create lists for next year. Our staff puts a lot of time and effort into our placement process. Please refrain from requesting a specific placement/teacher (for next year) from your child’s current teacher. If you have a thought or concern regarding this, please submit it in writing to me. Finally, I would like to wish all of the “Greenmont Moms” a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10th! As always, we are here to support you in any way we can! Nick Botelho Student Placement Again this year we are sending home forms for parents/guardians to complete, if they choose, in order to provide us with information that you think would be helpful for us to consider during the placement process. The form is double-sided, with a letter on one side explaining our placement process, and a form for you to complete (if you wish) on the back. If you choose to complete the form, please send it/them back to school (to your child’s teacher) no later than May 29th. If you have any questions about the form/letter, please let us know. PLEASE NOTE: This form should not be used to comment about your child’s current teacher or request a specific placement/teacher for next year. KINDERGARTEN SCREENING There will be NO SCHOOL for Kindergarten students on Tuesday, May 26th and Wednesday, May 27th so our teachers and staff can support our incoming Kindergarten families during the screening process.
