POST- CONFERENCE WORKSHOP Arts Based Enquiry

The Fourth Australasian Dance Movement Therapy Conference 2015
POST- CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
Arts Based Enquiry utilizing Narrative Movement
9.30 am - 4.30 pm, Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 July 2015,
Dorm 1, Rosina Building, Abbotsford Convent, Abbotsford, Australia
This two day workshop integrates narrative movement, with dance improvisation and other
modalities, including witnessing and playback theatre to work with the practice of Physical
Storytelling. Through this practice, scenes from real life, clinical applications, and research
will be investigated. A conductor helps groups or individuals present an actual story-event,
case material or research interests and then sets up a form for a small group of dancers to
improvise an episode to explore important aspects that are unable to be spoken. Scores from
physical storytelling will be presented to assist therapists to gain a better understanding of
their clients’ needs and issues. This work can contribute to creation of trust and shared
empathy which are essential ingredients for successful therapy. The process is applicable in
many settings including family ritual, personal ritual, the training of creative arts therapists,
supervision, therapy and performance.
These workshops are suitable for dance movement therapists, creative/expressive arts
therapists, arts based researchers, therapists, counsellors, educators and performing artists.
Participants will:
