Our organisation
The Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria (DVRCV) aims to prevent violence in
intimate and family relationships and promote non-violent and respectful behaviour.
We work within a feminist framework with an understanding of the gendered nature of family
violence. We work in partnership with other organisations with similar aims.
DVRCV receives core funding from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services
with additional income from a variety of government and philanthropic organisations.
We provide:
 Initial support, information and referral to individuals and professionals looking for
information on family violence and family violence services.
 Websites with information for
 people who have experienced or witnessed family violence, their friends and family
 family violence workers, researchers, students and primary prevention practitioners
 young people
 Training courses for professionals that educate participants on a range of family violence
responses from primary prevention through intervention and crisis to long term recovery
and highlight the needs of marginalised groups
 A specialist library, open to the general public, with resources relating to family violence,
sexual assault and child sexual assault
 A magazine with articles on current issues in family violence from workers and
researchers in the field

A range of related publications: pamphlets, help cards, discussion papers
Advocacy and comment on policy initiatives, media campaigns, project development, law
reform and best practice frameworks
Specialist projects to support the development of the family violence service system and
address gaps in service delivery.
Position context
DVRCV is a major provider of family violence training in Victoria. The Centre provides
training as part of its funding agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services
as well as under tender and contract for a variety of audiences. DVRCV has developed a
range of training programs, and continues to customise training for specific groups, as well
as develop new programs as needed.
DVRCV training is delivered in both regional and metropolitan areas.
The DVRCV training team aims to provide a high quality integrated set of training programs
with clear learning outcomes and a consistent message based on a feminist understanding
of family violence. Programs are regularly reviewed to ensure that they incorporate current
research and reflect good practice in working with women and children affected by family
violence.
The training team meets regularly to discuss training programs and training issues and team
members bring a range of skills and experience to the work of the team.
DVRCV is a Registered Training Organisation. It provides Domestic/Family Violence units of
competency from the Community Services Training package as well as non-accredited
training programs.
Reporting
Reports to: Training Coordinator
Responsibilities
1. Development and delivery of training programs:









Develop and update training programs and materials on issues relating to domestic
violence and sexual assault to ensure currency. This may be in-house or supported
externally in partnership with other organisations.
Deliver DVRCV’s training to participants from a wide range of backgrounds and
organisations as a sole trainer or in a co facilitation role.
Conduct training needs analyses
Keep up to date on current research, issues and good practice in responding to family
violence
As part of reflective practice and continuous improvement, review participant
evaluation forms and write evaluation reports on training delivered
Participate in team review of DVRCV training programs.
Undertake professional development activities to maintain compliance with Australian
Quality Training Framework (AQTF)
Take part in the Centre's responsibility for compliance with the AQTF and report
annually to Training Coordinator on compliance
Able to deliver training in locations outside of Melbourne metropolitan area which may
include overnight stays

2. Other responsibilities



Contribute to training team meetings
Provide professional consultation on training development and materials to workers in
related fields
Assist with the organisation of public forums
3. Contribute to the work of DVRCV more broadly
This includes:








Participating in workers’ meetings, professional development sessions and staff
events
Contributing to the development of organisational policy and procedures
Participating in discussion of current issues and the development of new resources,
policies and practice
Contributing to DVRCV publications, such as the magazine and discussion papers.
Assisting with and participating in organisational evaluation and planning
Contributing to the shared tasks of the organisation including providing back-up for
reception, conducting’ ‘open day’ sessions for visitors to DVRCV, general
housekeeping
Representing DVRCV at events, reference groups and committees
Taking responsibility for own administrative tasks, including word processing,
photocopying and filing, and contributing to the smooth running of the organisation
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Professional expertise in training on family violence







Experience in and the ability to develop and deliver training programs, including in
consultation with other agencies
Understanding of family violence risk factors and experience in undertaking risk
assessment and risk management
Experience in working with a range of survivors of family violence.
Awareness of new and emerging issues in the area of family violence.
Understanding of diversity issues such as disability, cultural and linguistic diversity,
ageing
Computer literacy
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent, or willingness to undertake
this training
2. Communicates effectively
 Able to communicate effectively and clearly (verbally and in writing) and ensure that
communication is suited to audience, including those who have experienced violence.
 Able to present and argue a point of view.
 Able to consult appropriately with staff and others outside DVRCV.

3. Works within feminist framework and has an understanding of the gendered nature
of family violence
 Able to articulate a sound understanding of feminist principles.
 Able to describe how feminist principles inform their work and their interaction with
colleagues and external organisations.

Desirable
 Relevant tertiary qualifications including in adult education
 Familiarity with competency based training models
 Understanding of and experience with the community sector
 Experience in online delivery of training
