Dear Patients/Family Members/Guardians:
Shriners Hospitals for Children® has established a company called Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services®
(POPS). Beginning April 20, 2015, orthotic and prosthetic services may be offered and provided to our patients by
POPS. This company occupies the same familiar space that the Shriners Hospitals for Children O & P Department
previously occupied, and utilizes the same experienced clinical and clerical staff that you have known for years.
This change was necessary to facilitate POPS seeking reimbursement from third party payers (commercial
insurance companies and federal/state insurance programs) for the O & P services provided.
In the event you choose POPS for such services, you will continue to enter the building through the main hospital
entrance. However, POPS will have a separate registration process. Please follow the signs directing you to the
POPS check-in area. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 4:30PM.
Your insurance company requires POPS to let you know you may have a co-insurance or deductible amount due
for the device or services you receive. However, if you have a financial hardship or other situation that affects your
ability to pay for your deductible and or co-insurance, it should not affect your access to care at POPS. Please
advise the staff of POPS of any such issues so that POPS may address your concerns and refer you to the
appropriate resources. You will be provided with an estimate upon request that will include the estimated coinsurance and deductible from your policy, and a financial counselor will meet with you prior to beginning work to
explain your options. If there is no financial hardship regarding paying your co-insurance and deductible, a
statement will be sent following services explaining the amount due and where to send your payment.
