Exalted Ruler’s Message
Dear Fellow Elks,
As we begin this new Elks' year on April 1st, I want to let all of you know how proud
I am to serve as your Exalted Ruler. It is an honor and a privilege and for that I say,
"Thank you". But, having said all that, it must also be stated that being the leader of
St. Augustine Elks Lodge #829 is a task far bigger than one person alone. Our
Lodge, being one of the largest in the state, requires a team of dedicated, hardworking officers, as well as committee members and general volunteers to keep
everything functioning smoothly. With this basic idea in mind I'm asking for YOUR
help this year. We still need volunteers for several positions. If you'd like to volunteer please contact either myself (see my contact info below) or any of our officers.
We will be working hard to improve communication around the Lodge this year
so that all our members will have a better understanding of WHAT and WHY decisions are made. Therefore, you will begin to see more committee reports at
meetings. So, be informed... attend meetings.
Hopefully, by the time you read this message, the new outside restrooms will
have been completed so that we can all once again enjoy beautiful Spring weather
at the Tiki Bar on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Additionally, the lounge renovations should be finished as well. And, by the way, if you haven't had a Friday dinner
at the Lodge lately, you're missing some delicious meals. Just remember that you
need to reserve your dinner by Thursday each week.
Let's get out and support our Elks Lodge. Together we can make it the best in
the state!
Fraternally,
Jimmy

Eland Message
To My fellow Eland Members:
I am honored to have been named President of the Eland Club for the 2015-2016
year. I look forward to continuing on the successes of the past year and raising
more money for the Elks Children’s Therapy Services, Youth Camp, Scholarship fund
and local St. Augustine community children’s charities.
I would like to start by thanking my fellow officers – Sharyn Grace, Vice President; Rosemary Dean, Treasurer; Teddie Grace, Secretary; Janet Masters, Parliamentarian; Elizabeth Wise, Chaplain and Marybeth Geronimo, Immediate Past President. I am truly grateful for their assistance and support as we begin a new year.
Our theme for the year is “Hearts and Hands Helping Children” which is the mission of everything we do in Eland. Our colors are red, white and blue, along with
the St. Augustine lighthouse image. Our Lodge is a vibrant part of the St. Augustine
community which is reflected in this theme.
I would like to thank Marybeth Geronimo for the work she has done as President
for the past two years. Many may not realize all of the work that goes on in the
background to plan for our meetings, put on an event, decorate the hall, and with
her husband James’ help, also do some heavy lifting. I know I can count on her in
the upcoming year as she uses her experience to lead our Ways and Means Committee to reach higher fundraising goals.
This year our fundraising goal is $10,000. Two years ago we raised over $8,000
so I believe this is achievable. In addition, I would like to see many more spouses
become part of the Eland Club. If we have missed meeting you at an Orientation
night, we might never get to speak to you directly about what we do, and how
much fun we have as a group. I hope to establish a committee to work with the Elks
to reach out to those we have missed and offer an invitation to join us.
There will be many opportunities for you to lend a hand in the coming year,
whether it’s baking a cake for our Monday night sales, selling Luau tickets or gathering donations from area businesses, clearing out a closet for our Garage sale or
shopping for Jewelry at our Jewelry party. Your time or talent is always needed.
July will be here before we know it, so our first priority will be planning for a spectacular 41st Annual Eland Club Luau. I hope to see many of you there.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you over the coming
year. Whatever you do to lend a hand; know that it is truly appreciated. Without
your help we couldn’t raise money for the causes that truly help children.
With warmest regards,
4

***Florida Elks Youth Camp***
FEYC Summer Camp
It is that time again. We will have approximately 8 children already enrolled for the FEYC this summer. If you have any children in mind who
would like to go the FEYC please contact me for an application or go on
line. It costs $180.00 per week to send a child to camp. We will sponsor
under privileged children whose parents cannot afford to send their
child to camp. . The camp is for children between the ages of 9-13.
Thanks to all who donated money for us to make this possible.
Thanks to all Brothers and Sisters for your donations to the Florida Elks
Youth Camp with your renewal membership. It is never to late to donate money for the camp. Please continue with your donations of
games, sports items and other things that are appropriate, for the 9-13
year old children who attend our Florida Elks Youth Camp. They have
requested that we not send clothing, as they wish to purchase new
clothing items for the less fortunate campers. We continue to need donations, particularly SPORTS equipment that can be used at the camp.
Keep them coming!!
If you have any questions about the camp, trip or donations, please feel
free to call me at any time: Irv Stockdale
