Hello Members,
I think everybody will agree that this Spring and Summer, we had seen some of the
best warm weather ever during all of our outdoor functions such as the picnics, parades and fair. And it seems like the cold and wet Fall weather came upon us overnight. But now is a great time to get together at the Lodge. Monday night Taco’s is
always a big hit for the entire family and too many of you are missing out on our
Thursday Night Dinners before Lodge meeting. Remember, that as a member, you
are always welcome and encouraged to attend meetings. Your voice and opinions
are always valued.
Friday nights have become even more exciting and not just because of the great Steaks and Specials
coming out of the kitchen. We have started a new game called the Queen of Hearts. Tickets are sold each
week at $1 each. On Friday nights at 7, one ticket is drawn and that person gets to turn over one of 54
cards on a board which includes both Jokers. Then those tickets are discarded and new tickets are sold
for the next weeks drawing. If you find the queen of Hearts, you get half the pot that has built up. But every card turned over is a winner. As of October 17th, the pot was up to $758.00. Each week the pot gets
larger and the odds get better.
The LOE did a fantastic job with their Sunday breakfast on October 19th. Folks said it was the best that
they have ever had before and many were asking why we don’t do this more often. What is your opinion,
would you like to see the Lodge have Breakfast on Sunday, at least once, maybe twice a month. Let us
know please!
Next month comes one of my worst days all year. DAY LIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS. Go to work in the
dark and come home in the dark. Don’t worry, we will have the lights on for you at the Lodge. We do have
our annual Veterans Program on Saturday the 15th. This is a great program and opportunity to be with
our remaining World War II Vets.
We will have 4 new members to be initiated on the 20th. Come meet and welcome our new members to
our Lodge. See you there! We will be closed for Thanksgiving. I wish everybody a Happy Holiday with
family and friends.

Memorial Service
On Sunday, December 7th at 2:00pm Exalted Ruler Russell Smith with his
Officers welcome all the family and friends of our departed Members to
attend this Memorial Ceremony to pay tribute to these past Members. You
do not have to be a Member to attend.

On September 19, 2014 a ground breaking ceremony was
held for the PVAMC Fisher House.
The Fisher House Program provides no-cost temporary accommodations to America’s military Veterans and active
duty service members’ families and caregivers while Veterans are getting treatment. PVAMC was selected to participate in the program and build a home on the Vancouver
PVAMC campus to support Portland and Vancouver facilities.
A shuttle service will provide transportation between the
two locations. The PVAMC house is to be designed for 16
families and have common kitchen and living rooms but will
have private bedrooms and bathrooms. Construction is anticipated to take 10 to 12 months to complete. It will be located at 1601 E. 4th Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA

Drug Awareness
Red Ribbon Week Post Cards
The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks of the United
States of America has the largest all-volunteer drug awareness program in the country. For more than 31 years, the Elks
have been providing educational materials to children, parents and schools at no cost.
Each year in October, the Elks honor the memory of slain DEA
Special Agent Enrique S Camerena with a Red Ribbon Campaign. Special Agent Camerena was kidnapped, tortured and
killed because he was successfully investigating one of the
largest drug trafficking organizations in Mexico.
The Elks Drug Awareness Program has launched a national
campaign to ask our leaders in Washington, DC to uphold our
nation’s drug laws and to remind everyone, especially our
youth, of the dangers of using any illicit drug.
The Elks are asking for President Obama’s help to send a message that drugs are dangerous; that drug use leads to drug
addiction; and that a hopeful future is one free of addiction.
Our goal is to have 200,000 Red Ribbon Week post cards sent.
