Message from Our
GRAND EXALTED RULER
John D. Amen
Budget a financial road map to successful Lodge year
April brings with it the start of a new Lodge year. In this
month our Trustees or Board of Directors is charged with
one of its most important duties: to present to the Lodge a
segregated budget for the year. This important task must be
approved and accepted by the Lodge at either the meeting
in which it is presented or at the next meeting if revision to
the budget is necessary. This budget will be the financial
road map for the Lodge for the ensuing year and must be
repeatedly referred to for assessing your progress.
Additionally, the Lodge Officers must “buy in” to the Lodge
plan for achieving a plus-one gain in membership for the
year ending March 31, 2016. The earlier you start, the better
your results will be. Do not rely solely on the Lodge
Secretary to handle all recruitment, reinstatement and
delinquency duties. These are not his or her exclusive
statutory duties. In recent years many other mandatory
requirements have been placed under the Secretary; so,
Exalted Ruler, please appoint an active membership
committee.
If your Lodge has achieved my goal of $4.60 per Member in
donations to Elks National Foundation, you are eligible for a
Gratitude Grant, and there is still time to secure the grant.
Do not let community members in need miss out on your
important service! Applications are due May 1.
Visit http://www.elks.org/enf/ community for details.
Another duty of the Exalted Ruler and Lodge Officers is to
set goals and then periodically measure your progress to
ensure a successful year.
Last, remember that it is imperative that you follow the Elks
Statutes in your Lodge. It is of utmost importance in
achieving fidelity to your sworn Obligation. If you are
confused with the requirements of the Statutes then first
check with your Exalted Ruler who may need to touch base
with the District Deputy, who
may need to consult with a
District Leader, District Advisor,
Special Deputy or the Area
Committee on Judiciary
Lawyer. All troubles can be
avoided by adherence to the
Statutes.
Marcia and I hope to see you
during our visits.
MESSAGE FROM OUR
EXALTED RULER
Mike Balster, PER
Come Share the Vision
I want change how about you? I have the ability, the desire,
and the backing to effect meaningful change. My goal is to
effect change that benefits members and guides our lodge
years to come. Our lodge should be a place you enjoy
visiting for a meal or a drink because it is fun and devoid of
drama. I have a vision, my team is in place, and we have
already started shaping the lodge. What is your vision for
our lodge? Please share it with our team. Together we can
build it so members will come. Be a part of the “new lodge”,
share your vision, and help further our new vision. Our
lodge should once again be the place high on your list of
places to go for an enjoyable evening. This is my second
time as Exalted Ruler and I am here because I believe in the
vision. Come visit and you will be convinced that change can
be good.
From the Station of the ESTEEMED LEADNG KNIGHT
I share the vision. I am looking forward to working with my fellow officers to make our lodge become the “Friendliest Lodge in the West” again.
Fraternally,
Mike Leon, Leading Knight
From the Station of the ESTEEMED LOYAL KNIGHT
I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to
serve our lodge as your incoming Loyal Knight. I am looking
forward to working with my fellow officers to make our
lodge excel.
Our annual Purple Pig Dinner is Saturday, April 18th, 2015.
Our local CHEA therapist, Becky Fahs, will be telling us how
our donations to the Purple Pig help our children in need.
There will be a silent auction and raffled items as well as
Karaoke by Dana!
This is a great time to bring in your purple pigs and get our
new Elks year to a great start. If you would like to donate
items for the silent auction please drop them by the lodge
office.
Fraternally, Dale Gregory, Loyal Knight

From the Station of the ESTEEMED Lecturing KNIGHT
I would like to say hello to all of our lodge members. I
am your new Lecturing Knight. I have been an Elk for
about eighteen months now and I have enjoyed meeting many
of you at lodge functions. I will do my best to help the lodge
grow and get even better in the coming year. Come out and
help us make this an even greater lodge.
Fraternally yours,
Mel Baker, Lecturing Knight
From the Past Exalted Rulers
Greetings,
The PER crab crack was again a success. We need to
thank all who helped make it so and those who came
and shared in the fellowship. The PERs have established a
scholarship for a deserving student, and we had several choices
this year. We did award that scholarship this year and it will be
presented at the youth award night April 14th.
We also will be installing the new officers March 28th and
would like to thank the incoming officers for their decision to
step up and lead the lodge for the upcoming year. The PERs will

From your Tiler
I attended my first Cajun Spring Fling Dance this past
Feb. 28th. This spicy meal was different for me but I
found it very tasty. It was a good turnout and after the
meal dancing commenced with the help of Warren Addison, DJ
extraordinaire. Thank you Bill for cooking up this great meal. Also
thanks to Tony Ulibarri and his volunteer crew for their hard work.
Our PER's put on their annual crab feed in March. As usual it was a
sellout and the food was excellent. There was plenty of crab, all
you could eat and then some. After eating we played Sport of
Kings horse racing. It was great fun. Thanks to all the hard working
volunteers for helping out the PER's.
Hopefully you didn't miss the March 28th Inauguration of your officers, and don't forget, we have a busy Sat. April 4th. The track meet
at Cuesta College and the Easter Egg Hunt at Elm St. Park happen
that day. We always need help.
Fraternally, Manuel Dias, Tiler

Today’s Youth, Tomorrow's Leaders
Editors Corner…..A Flash of History
With the elections over, I thought about the
many elections of past . We had our different
opinions then also. We even had parades marching through the lodge before the meeting. One
of our members even wrote a short story about them. “
THE LECTION” He printed it in book form and sold it to the
members, with the proceeds going to the major project. It
is very comical. In looking through some of my things I ran
into it and got a good laugh. It also reminded me about how
the “ROCK AND ROLL DINER”, came about. It was the same
member who was a retired train conductor. He bought the
two cars and had them placed where they are at now. At
that time it was fixed up to feel like you were rocking on a
train while you ate. That is where the name came from. His
name was Chic Sales. A very good Elk and always fun to be
around.
