Nepal Earthquake: Your Gift Will Help Children Now
UNICEF fears for wellbeing of children after Nepal earthquake
A devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake near Nepal’s capital city of Kathmandu has claimed
more than 5,000 lives, caused thousands of injuries and destroyed homes and infrastructure.
Some 1.7 million children require humanitarian assistance, and UNICEF is on the ground
working to provide critical aid to children and families.
UNICEF has prepositioned supplies, including water purification tablets, hygiene kits,
tarpaulins and nutrition supplies, and is working with government and other partners to meet
children’s immediate needs in the areas of water and sanitation, child protection, health and
nutrition.
When it comes to emergency and disaster relief, UNICEF is there for children – before,
during, and after a crisis. UNICEF promotes the rights and well being of every child, in
everything they do. Together with their partners, they work in 190 countries and territories to
translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most
vulnerable and excluded children, to the
