20 Houthi fighters killed in Aden
Sanaa: Arab air strikes killed
around 20 Houthi fighters outside
the southern Yemeni port city of
Aden on Wednesday, militiamen
opposed to the Houthis said, and
residents said overnight strikes also
killed a family of eight outside the
capital. A coalition of Arab states
have been bombing Houthi forces,
the dominant faction in Yemen’s
civil war, since March as part of
a campaign to restore President
Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to power
shortly after he fled to Saudi Arabia.
The Houthis say they are campaigning to persuade Hadi’s administration to bring them into the political
system and seeking to stop corruption by senior officials.

at Adila Jail Rawalpindi, Lakhvi’s
absence in the court during hearings
(since he was released from jail on
April 10, 2015 on bail) is a sheer
violation of law.

Indian Meteorological department
predicting a second straight drought
year for the country, a massive
challenge could be ahead of Prime
minister Narendra Modi`s ambitious
plans of reviving India`s subdued
economy. However, it said it disagreed with IMD`s prediction of 88%
rains. Skymet said that Monsoon
2015`s overall performance will be

extended to them.
The Chief Minister was informed that the insurance
scheme for fruit growers will
first cater to the losses suffered
on account of hailstorm. Under
the new scheme, the Government expects to cover 70% of the
total area under apple cultivation. Mufti Sayeed directed the
Horticulture Department to expedite the modalities for providing insurance cover to the fruit
growers, who remain vulnerable to weather vagaries.
He also passed instructions
for making assessment of damages to crops suffered due to
hailstorm yesterday in Tral,
Dachnipora,
Shangus
and
Khuripora areas in Pulwama
and Anantnag districts. Along
with Handicraft, Horticulture
remains State’s main export oriented sector. However, the 2014
floods badly impacted the sector with losses assessed to the
tune of Rs.1568 crore. The sector
contributes 7-8 per cent to the
State’s GDP.

World Bank approves $250 mn loan
for J&K flood recovery project
AGENCIES, JUN 03|15
New Delhi: Multi-lateral lender World Bank today approved
USD 250 million loan for Jhelum
and Tawi Flood Recovery Project for reconstruction of floodaffected public infrastructure in
Jammu & Kashmir. It will also
strengthen the capacity of state
government to respond and better manage natural disasters in
future, World Bank said in a release. The project will be funded
by credit from World Bank’s
concessionary --International
Development Association (IDA).
The loan has a maturity of 25
years, including a 5 year grace
period. A continuous spell of
rains in September 2014 had
caused Jhelum, Chenab and
Tawi rivers, their tributaries
and many other streams to flow
above the danger mark which
had severely affected livelihoods in the state.
Due to the unprecedented
heavy rainfall, the catchment areas, particularly low lying ones,
were flooded for more than two
weeks, while Jhelum breached
its banks at several places.
“This region is highly vulnerable to natural disasters that
can push millions into poverty.
In addition to reconstruction,
which includes reconstruction
of roads, bridges and public infrastructure, the project will
also help the region be better
prepared for the future,” said
Onno Ruhl, World Bank Coun-
try Director in India, in the
statement.
“The challenge is to build
smarter, so that they do not undermine the fragile eco-system.
It will incorporate lessons from
previous national and global
post-disaster recovery projects
to ensure that recovery is targeted, effective and more resilient
to future disasters,” he added.
The recovery project will focus on 20 districts -- Anantnag,
Baramula, Budgam, Bandipora,
Ganderbal, Kupwara, Kulgam,
Pulwama, Shopian, Srinagar,
Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban,
Poonch, Rajauri and Udhampur.

also reachable through local
transport like auto rickshaws,
mini buses etc.
The star attraction of this
museum is the golden throne
of Jammu, weighing a whop-
ping 120 kgs, done up in pure
gold. The art collection here
is also quite impressive, with
paintings of M F Hussain and
Laxman Pai on display, among
other famous Indian contemporary painters. Another
interesting aspect is the Pahari
paintings displayed here, depicting tales from the Mahabharata and other folklore, especially those of Nal Damyanti.
The museum also organises
heritage walks around the complex to give detailed insights
into the history of Jammu and
surrounding cities.
Amar Mahal Palace was built
in the nineteenth century for
Raja Amar Singh, a Dogra
king by a French architect on
the lines of a French Chateau.
The palace was donated to the
Hari-Tara charitable trust by
Dr. Karan Singh for use as a
museum. It has many exhibits
including a golden throne,
Kangra miniature paintings, a
library of 25,000 antique books
and many rare art collections.
The palace was the last official residence of the Dogra
dynasty, and a large collection
of portraits of the royal family are also on display in the
Museum.
Amar Mahal is situated on
the right bank of the Tawi
River, on a bend of the river.
Jammu, once a princely city, is
also famous for forts, palaces
and temples. The Sivalik Hills
or ranges to the north of the
Mahal, on the left bank of the
river, provide a grand view,
with the Tawi River flowing in
between, draining the valley.
The Amar Mahal Palace was
