Summary of the project “Good Travelers”
The majority of young people and travelers lack awareness about the current situation and
management of natural resources, development and changes of landscape caused by tourism
activities. There are impacts of residual waste, water waste, exotic souvenirs and overall fragility of
sensitive areas.
The project “Good Travelers” aims to inform young people about the above issues and provide them a
chance to learn from each other and improve local and global practices in order to avoid the negative
impacts of mass tourism consuption and cover the need for alternative information about different
ways of travelling and environmental friendly behaviours.
The project will be implemented in the island of Zante due to the fact that a lot of the beaches of this
specific island are used as nests from the sea turtle Caretta-Caretta, which is one of the endangered
species. The bad habits of the mass tourism and the lack of environmental awareness on this sensible
area are causing a lot of problems as far as the fauna and flora of the island are concerned.
Aims & Objectives
Learn about sustainable growth and environment
Learn about coastal situation in different countries
Discover new cultures, habits, lifestyles and healthy behaviours towards sensible areas
Exchange their knowledge and practices by using different resources in sensible areas
Cultivate the concept of alternative form of sustainable tourism
Gain experience in sustainable way of traveling
Deepen the understanding of environmental and tourism issues
Create a Guide of necessary environmental knowledge
Make a positive long-term impact
Spread the word in participating countries and communities
Social and personal development via sharing and cultivating skills, attitudes and knowledge
Participants preparation before the Training Course
You are requested to prepare a 3 minute presentation of your organisations and probably of relevent
actions that you have implemented or in which you have participated.
In addition, there will be a cultural night which is going to take place in a central spot of Zante and will
be attended not only by the participants, but also by inhabitants. So be ready to represent your
country to the local community of the island! To contribute to this event and present your culture you
can get some cultural drinks and foods!
Transportation
Regarding the ways of travelling to the island of Zante there are two options :
One way is to fly to Zante - ZTH - Zakynthos International Airport - 'Dionysios Solomos'
(Including Stops).
Another way is to fly to Athens and then you can take the bus (X93) from the airport to the
Bus Station of Kifisos

there is a bus that can bring you to the island of Zante (http://www.ktel-

*If you overcome the above budget, you will have to pay yourself the difference
25€ per participant for your visa cost are covered by the programme (Regarding Turkey and
Turkish participants only)
REIMBURSEMENT
Your travel costs will be reimbursed after the project.
We will collect all the boarding passes and tickets of your arrival during the project. When you return
to your home country you will send us by post office the boarding passes of your departure and then
we will immediately reimburse you by bank transfer.
KEEP ALL THE BILLS, TICKETS AND BOARDING PASSES from your travel.
The boarding pass of your return trip, will be sent to us after your departure from the island of
Zante.
Insurance
Each participant is responsible about his/hers insurance
