Kids’ Challenge THE CANUCK PLACE ADVENTURE RACE The Canuck Place Adventure Race is a team-centred, family-friendly fitness and fundraising challenge that will have teams of students, friends, families, and organizations coming together to race for a reason. !This multi-sport event includes an adult and teen course with kayaking, mountain biking and running components, and an exciting kids’ course that begins with a series of fun obstacles followed by a 2km bike ride and 1km run. The Kids’ Challenge is suitable for those between the ages of 6 and 13. !The 2014 Canuck Place Adventure Race raised over $130,000 for pediatric palliative care. More than 140 participants, including over 15 Canuck Place families enjoyed the gorgeous views from Jericho as they raced to support Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. !This package has been put together to make it easy for your school to form a team, fundraise for Canuck Place, and challenge each other to conquer the Adventure Race! The Canuck Place Adventure Race ! REGISTRATION PROCESS While individuals are more than welcome to enter and complete the event on their own, everything is better with friends! The Canuck Place Adventure Race is a team-centred event where participants are encouraged to fundraise, train, and race together. ! When participants/teams register, they will be asked if they are associated with a school. Schools can have an unlimited number of teams associated with it. It will be up to the school to determine if all students will be asked to join the same school team, or if they are welcome to create their own teams based on grade, class, or groups of friends. Keep in mind, teams must cross the finish line together! ! ! Step 1 Visit www.CanuckPlaceAdventureRace.ca ! Step 2 Click Register Now! ! Step 3 Forming a team This step needs to be performed only once by the Team Captain. This person will create the name of the team and click the next step button to complete their registration. The team captain will be able to manage the team page and contact all team members from their participant centre once they complete registration. ! Joining a team Anyone who wants to join a team will simply click I would like to join an existing team, enter the team name in the space provided, and proceed through the registration process. Alternatively, students can select their school from the drop down menu to see all teams associated with the school. ! Step 4 Once registered, participants will be taken to their Participant Centre where they can customize their personal fundraising pages and send emails out to all of their family members and friends to solicit donations! ! ! Sunday September 13th, Jericho Beach 5 FUNDRAISING IDEAS & TIPS !Adventure Race Kids’ Challenge participants are asked to raise $150 each, whether they are participating as an individual or as part of a team. ! Organizing a fundraiser at your school is great for learning about goal setting, giving back, and developing excellent planning skills. From start to finish these events are about youth learning project skills, time management, event planning and the importance of care, compassion and contribution in the community. ! The ideas and tips below are meant to get your students thinking about various ways to fundraise, but feel free to get creative and have fun with any ideas you can come up with! ! Host an “A-thon” Read-a-thon, bike-a-thon, hoola-hoop-a-thon. You can make anything a fundraiser! Use our Canuck Place Adventure Race Pledge Form to collect your donations ! Dress Down or Dress Up Day If you usually wear a uniform, students can make a donation for the opportunity to wear casual clothes or choose a theme and have students dress up in costume. ! Coin Collection Print out our “Build your own donation box” from the Canuck Place Fundraising Toolkit and watch that change add up. Challenge other classrooms, divisions, or even a rival school for a fun fundraising challenge. ! Sell Something Host a Pancake Breakfast, Bake Sale, Craft Fair or Community Garage Sale. Use your talents to build courage at Canuck Place! !Show Off Talent shows, battle of the bands, plays and recitals. Donate a portion of proceeds from ticket sales or organize a raffle. ! Coffee Cart Fundraiser Students from Alpha Secondary in Burnaby donated the proceeds from their Coffee Cart sales throughout the semester. They were able to raise over $200! !! The Canuck Place Adventure Race FAQs Registration !Can I participate without a team? Yes! You are welcome to participate as an individual. However if you are planning to come to the event with a group of friends you are more than welcome to form a team and fundraise together! Do I need to bring my own bike? Yes, you will need to supply your own mountain bike. There will be a transition area at the start/ finish line where you can store your bike while you’re racing in the obstacle course and run portion. Where do I find racer results? A link to racer results will be posted on the website following the event. How do I make a change to my team? Sunday September 13th, Jericho Beach 7 FAQs Fundraising !Can I set up an Online Fundraising Page? When you register for the Canuck Place Adventure Race, you will automatically create your own fundraising page. Your page can be customized with photos, video and information about why you support Canuck Place. It’s an easy way to share your fundraising goals online, encourage donations, and raise awareness. Do I have to fundraise? The Canuck Place Adventure Race is a fundraising event. Funds raised at this event support Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in providing critical clinical care and programs for BC’s children with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them. Therefore, we ask that all Kids’ Challenge participants do their best to reach the $150 goal. A bi-weekly newsletter to participants includes tips for fundraising, proper nutrition, training, and using social media to help you achieve your goals. However, if the goal is not met, participants will not be charged a penalty. What if I don’t raise the minimum amount? With our fundraising tips and your enthusiasm we are confident you will have all the tools you need to successfully reach (and surpass!) your fundraising goal. Keep an eye on our Participant Newsletters for great tips. What if some of my supporters want to give me cash or cheque donations? While donating online is quick and easy, some of your supporters may wish to give you cash or cheque donations. Keep track of these donations with our pledge form (available on the Adventure Race website or email [email protected]) and make sure you capture all of your donor’s information so we can issue a tax receipt. How do I add cash and cheque donations to my online total? Log into your Participant Centre and click “Enter Offline Donations”. This will allow you to add any cash or cheque donations to your grand total so you can keep track of your progress. How do I submit my cash and cheque donations to Canuck Place? If you collect cash and cheque donations, you can bring them with you on race day or anytime to the hospice at 1690 Matthews Ave, Vancouver along with a completed pledge form. Please ensure you have complete donation amounts, names, addresses and telephone numbers for donors. Tax receipts will be issued under the Canada Revenue Agency Guidelines. Please ensure cheques are made payable to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Please do not mail cash. What is your Charity Registration number? Our charitable registration #13386 7523 RR0001 I lost my tax receipt. How can I get another copy? No problem. We can issue a duplicate copy of your receipt.
