Al-Van Humane Society Development Director Job Posting Al-Van Humane Society - South Haven, MI Development Director Al-Van Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in a beautiful lakefront community in southwest Michigan. We seek a charismatic individual who is strongly committed to the no-kill philosophy and ready to lead Al-Van Humane Society to achieve sustainable financial support for its mission "to compassionately serve the companion animals in our community by providing the best shelter, adoptive homes, education and resources available." The Development Director provides fundraising leadership, vision, strategic direction and oversight for all aspects of Al-Van Humane Society’s fund development program. Responsibilities Create and implement strategies to increase revenues and diversify funding through comprehensive fund development, donor stewardship, online and offline direct marketing efforts, major donor and planned gift fundraising programs, foundations, grants and corporate partnerships. Build a supporter base of regular committed donors using all current fundraising tools and resources as well as relationship building strategies. Ensure all fundraising efforts (including direct mail and online appeals, donor visits, events, etc.) are effective, measurable and integrated with organizational goals. Work collaboratively on events including promotion, press releases, engaging the media, creating powerful and emotional presentations that encourage donations. Manage multiple projects, set priorities, monitor progress effectively and meet timelines. Manage and maintain donor database with current information and perform routine reconciliations from the donor database to the financial system. Ensure all development activities are compliant with applicable laws. Work as a proactive member of the team, communicating and collaborating effectively with shelter staff and the board of directors. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of fundraising management experience. Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising techniques including online and offline direct marketing, monthly giving, major and planned gift prospect research, proposal preparation, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Management of budgets, statistical analysis and reconciliation. Ability to work collaboratively to advance fundraising activities and increase revenue to support the mission. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey information clearly. Familiarity with Donor Perfect and accounting software. Previous animal welfare experience and/or other non-profit experience a plus. Must be professional, self-directed, have an eye for detail, creative flair and eager to make a difference. General Information Reports to Board of Directors Part-time position (average 20 hours a week) with flexible hours on site and off site. Salary commensurate with experience.
