Earlier in 2013, the award for Best packaging design by the Confederation of Indian Industries and the National Institute for Design (CII-NID) was given to Vivek Sahni Design for Kama Ayurveda’s packaging. The award winning packaging has a vintage charm with a contemporary twist, creating a definitive design statement for Ayurveda for the 21stcentury. Kama also earned Vivek Sahni Design the highly regarded CII-NID Environmental Graphics Award for the design of the Kama store in Khan Market. Speaking about Kama Ayurveda’s flagship store, director Vivek Sahni said, “Elegant and stylish, this store is the perfect backdrop for the pure and natural Kama Ayurveda range of beauty and well being products.” KINDI (pot) is a traditional brass instrument shaped like a pot which is used for pouring warm herbal oil onto the body. URULI (bowl) is a traditional finely crafted brass bowl used to warm oil or make a paste of ayurvedic herbs. HOW TO USE SPA In a spa setting, Urlis are used to keep the oils and powders that are going to be used for the massage. Once the herbal oil is warmed up it is poured into the Kindi and from there it is gently poured onto the body. STEP 1: pour the necessary quantity of oil and powder for the treatment into Urlis. STEP 2: pour oil into oil burner to warm up. STEP 3: pour warm oil into Kindi to pour onto body. The small size is useful for face treatments, the medium one for hair treatments and the larger one for body treatments. BOUTIQUE In a boutique or hotel, these objects have a high decorative value. The Urli can be used as ‘testers’ to allow people to try the oils or the powders, or simply to be filled with petals or herbs & spices as a decortive item. BRASS OIL BURNER This beautiful handcrafted oil burner is made on demand by craftsmen in Kerala, South India. Besides its specific functions it is also beautiful as a decorative object when the light of the candle goes through the carvings and reflects on walls. HOW TO USE It can be used both as an oil warmer for spa treatments or as a difusor to create an ambiance. For spa treatments, to warm herbal oils, simply light and insert the candle at the bottom and pour the oil onto the bowl shaped top. Once the oil is warm, pour into the Kindi to then be poured onto body. We recomend to have various of these oil burners in order to use one per diffrent type of oil. To create ambience, fill the top bowl with water and pour some drops of Kama essential oil (minimum 10 drops for best results). According to ancient Hindu Scriptures, Lord Danvanthri is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and the discoverer of Ayurveda. After Indra, the king of the Devatas, was attacked and defeated by Asuras (demons) he went to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu advised them to treat the demons in a diplomatic manner. Devas formed an alliance with asuras to jointly churn the ocean for the nectar of immortality (amrita) and to share it among them. The churning of the ocean was an elaborate process. During the churning, many Divine objects and beings emerged from the ocean. At the end of this process, Lord Danvanthri appeared from the ocean. He was carrying with him a pot filled with the divine nectar of immortality. Lord Danvanthri seeing humanity so afflicted by pain and disease descended into the material world and tought Ayurveda to the human race. Lord Danvanthri was born in the royal household of Kashi and eventually became the king. Even as a young boy he had ascetic tendencies, was extremely disciplined and performed severe austerities. He taught Ayurveda orally to the sages and rishis (seers) who became his disciples. His teachings are recorded in the Agni Purana, as well as through the teachings of his disciples Susruta, Pauskalavata, Aurabha, Vaitarana, and others. It is written in the scriptures that, “One who remembers the name of Danvanthri can be released from all disease.” Lord Danvanthri is worshipped all over India as the God of Medicine. Even today, two days before Diwali, the Festival of Lights, the day of his appearance is celebrated by worshipping him. At dusk, a lamp pointing toward North by North-East is lit at the doorstep of the house to welcome Lord Danvanthri for health and happiness in life. This day is known as Dhanteras. Lord Danvanthri destroys negativity and blesses his devotees with good health.
