Fairwood Swim Club Serving the summer community of Fairwood and beyond for 33 years Dear Pool Member, Every season brings changes to our pool and this year sees more changes to the list of board members. Several past Pool board members have retired and new board members have stepped up to fill in vacancies. We thank the previous board for serving selflessly contributing countless, behind the scene hours prepping, maintaining and caring for our pool. As our club turns 33 years of age, we welcome our newest pool board members. Fairwood Swim Club Goals Our goal is to continue to offer the community of Fairwood and Pasadena a fun, quality, sun filled experience where friends and families come together. The past pool board has worked very hard to maintain and improve our pool over the past several years and we hope to match or exceed their efforts in the coming years. However, there remains a great deal of work to modernize and maintain the pool and we look forward to volunteers assisting with: Painting; Repair of garage doors; Resurface of the pool bottom; General electrical and plumbing work; Trimming of trees and bushes along pool fence perimeter; Tending and weeding Emily’s garden; Distributing stone throughout the parking lot; Continuing improvements to the park. Lastly, we want all members to know that the pool board will also be paying our $350.00 summer registration fees just as each of you do. Written advice and suggestions are welcomed. Please also keep in mind that members of the pool board are volunteers who devote their time and efforts with no compensation. Our board exists solely to manage and maintain the pool so suggestions are welcomed, but we have limited resources. Lifeguards Holly Lucke, will be our head life guard. Holly is a college student and has been lifeguard at Fairwood during previous summers. Holly will assist in managing the other life guards as well as providing the board with suggestions on how we can improve the pool. Swim Team After assisting Tina Roberto in her duties and serving as the Fairwood Representative to the East Severna Park Swim League for a number of years, Michael Spratley has agreed to serve as the Swim Team Coordinator for 2015. This is a volunteer position with no associated compensation. The Swim Team Coordinator serves as the Fairwood ESPL League Rep – attending all league meetings, representing the team at home and away meets, interfacing with the opposing coaches and Reps, FSC*8311 Fairwood Drive*Pasadena, MD 21122 1 and assisting in the organization and execution of the end of season medal meets. The Swim Team Coordinator also organizes home swim meets with the help of the Team Parent and meet day Computer Operations manager and is responsible for the meet set-up in the Meet Manager Software Suite. The Swim Team Coordinator requires the assistance of numerous parent volunteers throughout the summer, and a detailed list of tasks will be provided prior to the start of the season to assist in the coordination of these volunteers. Karen Rodenizer, Taylor Reiley’s mother, will be assisting Michael Spratley this swim season. Karen brings enthusiasm and energy to the team and is actively looking into swim wear options for this season. Karen is a member of the Swim Club Pool Board, and along with her husband Dale provided hours of volunteer service to the swim team and the pool last summer. We graciously welcome Karen to the team. We are very lucky to have Maureen Kogut returning as our meet day computer operations manager. Maureen and her husband, Alan, are well known to everyone - having supplied a long lineage of swimmers that have represented Fairwood in a highly skilled manner – exhibiting true sportsmanship throughout. Alan has served as our official starter for years and is at the pool at 6:00 AM before every home meet to assist in pool set-up. Club Membership Now is the time to send in your annual Fairwood Swim Club maintenance fee. This year’s fee is $350 per family (both inside and outside Fairwood) payable in full by May 23, 2014. Our $500.00 pool bond for new residential members was waived temporarily last year in effort to increase membership. We have reinstated the pool bond for Fairwood residents and will waive the first year maintenance fee for new bond members. The $1,000.00 bond remains unchanged and is great way to make your home more enticing to future buyers. Senior discounts (65 and over) are available as well. Call for more details. In addition, please look over the pool’s Calendar of Events so you can be sure to be a part of all the fun activities this summer. This year we will be at the pool on May 16th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm to accept your pool fee, but you may still mail or deliver it if you prefer. Many pictures are out of date and so it is important that you send in a new family picture with your registration form. A digital photo is also acceptable. This form and photo requirement is for your protection and contains emergency information in case it is needed. As in past years, members can reduce their annual fee by volunteering to assist with readying the pool for opening. When one or more persons listed under your membership works 6 hours or more, your annual fee will be reduced by $25. Work party days are scheduled at the pool on Saturday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 9th beginning at 10:00 am. If you want to take advantage of the reduction, or arrange for another work day, please contact David McFarland at 410-693-1118 or Paul Coffelt at 410-360-9478.
