Faith Fellowship is a Church
that Cares.
Last week I wrote about the caring
spirit I felt when I first joined the
Faith Fellowship staff. There are
many ways that we can express
our spirit of caring. Often, caring
is being there for someone even
when we don’t have answers. Our
Care Ministers are having a time
of growth and support on Monday
evening, May 11, from 7:00 to
8:30, in our church office on
Waller Avenue. We will spend
time sharing our needs as Care Ministers. We also will discuss various
possibilities for sharing and strengthening our care ministry. If you are not yet
one of our Care Ministers, but have an interest in serving in our congregation
through the ministry of caring, you are invited to attend this session. We need
all who are going to attend to RSVP to Norma Smither in the church office
(859-277-0420) so that we may be prepared with adequate materials and snacks.

Pray for my 3-year-old granddaughter, Ellie, who will have
surgery on May 15th for removal
of a tumor in her knee. (Karen
Maudsley)
Pray for John Compton who has
developed a very serious bacterial
infection while recovering from
open heart surgery (4 bypasses)
over a month ago. John is also
dealing with stomach issues and
issues with his incisions in his leg.
Please keep John and Gloria in
your prayers. He’s having a tough
time.
Kevin Parrish requests prayer for
his dad, Charles, who is

during this time.
John’s Current View
by John Compton
There’s always a Happy Face when you meet a member of Faith
Fellowship. Probably if you’ve encountered Marsha Oakley, she gave you a
smile before you could give her one. If you have had the pleasure of having a
conversation with her you have been impressed with her intelligence and
practical knowledge.
Marsha is originally from Columbus, Ohio, but has made Kentucky her
home since 1970. After getting to Kentucky, she met and married attorney John
Oakley (now deceased). In addition to two sons and a daughter, she got her BA
and MA from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. UK apparently
recognized her intelligence and other qualities and employed her over a forty
year career, mainly involving nursing research.
Marsha’s ready smile was broader than usual a few weeks ago when she
brought her two-year-old granddaughter to church (pictured above). Marsha’s
smile will be more “widely” enjoyed when a second granddaughter gets here in
August!
She’s made friends quickly and easily since joining Faith Fellowship,
but her long time friends Patricia Wilson, Pam Gilkerson and Gary and Sheri
Seckman may have influenced her transfer.
Choir members have greater opportunities to get to know Marsha because
she is another great addition to the choir.
Pray for a young friend of Nancy
Robinson’s granddaughter who
suddenly lost her vision in one
eye. At this time, the doctors
have given her a 10-15% chance
of restoring her sight.
In my view, I believe our friend Marsha is happiest when she helps
others, and conveys to them a feeling of genuine concern. Make a point to get
to know her better - - you’ll be glad you did.

Pray for Jackie Bondurant as she

lessened the tremors that Jackie
has had for some time. She and
David appreciate your prayers on
Jackie’s behalf.
Are you one of the naysayers who thought Facebook was merely a passing
fancy? Boy, were you wrong! As of the first quarter of 2015, Facebook had
1.44 billion monthly active users worldwide, with 210 million monthly active
users in North America. At the end of the first quarter of 2011, 1.9 million
Kentuckians were on Facebook -- 45.6 percent of the population. Applying that
rate to Fayette County's estimated 2014 population, there are some 142,000
Facebookers within easy driving distance of Faith Fellowship. And, of course,
many people think it's worth a drive from Garrard, Madison, Clark, Scott,

#1 - If you're not on Facebook yet, consider asking a friend to help you -- then
you can "friend" them . . . sounds complicated, but it's not.
#2 - Once you're on Facebook, go to Faith Fellowship's page and click the
Follow button. That way you'll be notified when updates have been posted and
you won't develop FOMO ("fear of missing out"). [You can find our FB page

Pray for Angie Walk, Diana Sisk’s
sister, that her doctors can give
her an accurate diagnosis in order
to know how to help her.
Pray for Todd Pickett who is in
dire need of a kidney because of
diabetes complications. The
kidney does not need to be a
match; it is a kidney donated for a
kidney. His mother, Joan Pickett,
is a close friend to Barbara Hull,
Gloria Compton, and Liz
Berryman. Please pray that a
kidney will be made available for
him. He is now on dialysis while
waiting for a kidney.

Faith from the Front Porch
by Ms. Jackie Bondurant
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart
from it.
Proverbs 22:6
One of the most mystifying aspects of life, I think, is rearing children. Everyone
has an opinion on the how’s and why’s of parenthood, but there is no clear set of
instructions and no guarantee that the amount of time and energy spent on this
tremendously important task will ever result in success. Our children were blessed
with two sets of grandparents who lived within three miles of our house. A second
blessing was right after we moved into the neighborhood, the population shift
moved from older residents to younger families with small children. The third
blessing was the majority of houses on our street have large front porches. We
always knew where our children were – we could hear them as they moved from
porch to porch. Then there was the day we lost Becky (our daughter) and Katie.
After three hours of searching the neighborhood, calling friends, and general panic
over a news report that there was a man stalking children in south Lexington, I was
ready to call the police. About that time our neighbors from two doors down came
home from having lunch out at a restaurant. The back of their house, including the
kitchen, was being renovated which made it difficult to cook. As we talked to the
adults, their six-year-old son came running from the house crying, “Mom, Dad!
You should see what those girls did to my room.” With tears and laughter we all
rejoiced that two three-year-olds had wandered into an unsecured house and
managed to wreck havoc!
