Faith News and Notes for June 7, 2015
Next Sunday We Begin Two Times for Worship — Each with a Unique Style.
AS WE GATHER
The devil deceived us, enticing us to
disregard and disobey the Word of God and
driving us to hide “from the presence of the
LORD God.” But the Lord, in His mercy,
promised a Savior, who would set Himself
against the devil on our behalf (Genesis 3:8–15).
The Son of Man came, the incarnate Son of
God, conceived and born of woman. He “first
binds the strong man,” Satan, by atoning for the
sins of the world, thereby removing the
condemnation of the Law and the fear of death
(Mark 3:27). Now He plunders the devil’s house
by calling all men to repent.
Though He appears to be “out of his mind”
(Mark 3:21), He fulfills the will of God and makes
of us His own brothers and sisters.
Therefore, “we do not lose heart,” despite
the suffering, sin and death that we experience
in this fallen world. “He who raised the Lord
Jesus will raise us also with Jesus.”
By His grace, we are “being renewed day
by day.” For the Gospel is daily bringing us into
His presence, not for punishment, but for “an
eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:14–17).
THE CHANCEL FLOWERS TODAY are Given to the Glory of God
in honor of Chris Petterson’s birthday by Mary Jo Petterson.
Openings for Chancel Flowers: August 30, October 4 and 11, November 8, 2015
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to
Chris Petterson, Mignon Travers, Todd Watson
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to
Watson and Magdala Ray, Fred and Jane Dahlmeier, Jim and Jane Blevins,

STEWARD SENSE
Jesus said, "Whoever does the will of God,
he is my brother and sister and mother."
Doing the will of God starts with trusting
in His Son Jesus Christ.
Once we have received faith in Him and
have been reborn as new creatures through
Holy Baptism, we strive to grow in this faith
and in a life that agrees with our faith.
Growing in generosity, in kindness, and in
love across our callings in the home, in church,
and in society is growing into the family of God:
for all who do His will are his brothers, and
sisters, and mothers.
That’s a good definition of stewardship.

Faith News and Notes for June 7, 2015
For the fifth year, Faith Lutheran Church is collecting school backpacks for under-privileged
grade-school children attending Lake Park Elementary.
Faith members are encouraged to participate in this worthwhile endeavor by
1) purchasing backpacks
and placing them in the box in the narthex or
2) donating money via the cash box in the narthex or
3) placing your check made out to FLC in the offering plate,
with "backpack" on the memo line or
4) going to our website and clicking on the “ DONATE ” button.
We will be gathering dollars and backpacks until the first of August.
STEWARDSHIP IN SIMPLE DOLLARS
You will begin receiving, with this announcement, a monthly summary—ideally on the first Sunday of
the month—of our income and expenditures for the previous month. Thus, for the month of May:
Income
$62,288 [This includes a one-time gift of $25,000 from our Endowment Fund for
our contemporary music ministry.]
Expenditures $109,392 [This includes the annual premium for our wind insurance of $36,047 and
an $11,913 down payment on our property-liability insurance’s annual
premium of $47,366.]
Will you ATTEND an 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Sunday Summer Study on
The Revelation of Jesus Christ Which God Gave To St. John ?
What Sundays? June 21 to August 9 — 8 (eight) Sunday mornings.
You will read the entire book of Revelation. You will have a short study guide—available, for sure, next
Sunday. You will be led in your study by Dr. Mark Brighton, Professor, Concordia University, Irvine, CA,
and Don Rousseau (first 2 Sundays) and Pastor Ken.
Pastor Ken needs a guarantee of 12 (twelve)! Why? Because it is a favorite number of Jesus and St.
John, it is also a favorite number of mine. And, nothing personal, but I/we are not going through all of
the effort needed for only 3 or 4.
So, if this 8-session course looks interesting to you, SIGN-UP THIS MORNING!
KFUO Radio, a station owned and operated by The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, recently
celebrated its ninetieth anniversary. For 90 years, this station has continuously broadcast the Good
News of Jesus Christ. In the early days of the station, it was suggested that its call letters stand for
“Keep Forward, Upward, Onward.” For us here, I would suggest “Keep Faith Upward, Onward!”

THE GOSPEL OF ST. MARK IN OUR SUNDAY SERVICES
WHAT FOLLOWS MAY WELL BE MORE THAN YOU WANT
TO KNOW ABOUT THIS CHURCH YEAR!
I’ve listed all the appointed Sunday readings
from St. Mark for the entire year. What we’ve
read are noted by the liturgical Sunday; what
we will read by the calendar date.
The readings in italics are appointed but,
because of the timing of Easter Sunday, were not
read; and we skip two readings when we
celebrate Reformation Day and All Saints’
Sunday.
If you look over the list, you will see that we
have/will read in our Divine Services during
this Church Year most of The Gospel
According to St. Mark, but not absolutely all of
it; and some, because of the festival seasons,
not in close sequence.
Traditionally the reading from the appointed
Gospel is the text for the Sermon. And, it most
likely will be for most of these Sundays.
During this Pentecost Season we also have five
Sundays in a row with selections from
Second Corinthians, eight Sundays with
selections from Ephesians, four Sundays from
James, and seven Sundays from Hebrews.
Such ordering does lend itself well to becoming
a series of Sermons on these letters.
Unlike the Revised Common Lectionary, our
LC–MS lectionary does not have continuous
readings from Old Testament books during this
time of the year. And, during this season, we
often will not read the appointed Old
Testament selection. Having written that, I
think I should at least note them for you.
So, read ahead and fill in the blank spots. The
four Gospel accounts always are exciting.
St. Mark does not disappoint.
