Faith Works Congregational Appeal Materials

SUGGESTED TIME-LINE FOR THE
FAITH WORKS CAMPAIGN
The suggested timeline for conducting the Faith Works Campaign in
congregations is as follows. Congregations should not shortcut the
schedule and process. It takes time to communicate, to inform, and
to motivate. Congregations need to use the full three-week, threeSunday schedule.
First Week
Sunday
Announce the Campaign. Begin using Bulletin and
Newsletter paragraphs. Display posters.
Second Week
Sunday
Temple Talk at worship service(s). Use Bulletin Insert
Announce “Faith Works” Sunday
Third Week
Sunday
“Faith Works” Sunday. Sermon and/or comments by
Pastor, or guest speaker. Distribute Faith Works
brochure with every bulletin. Gifts solicited from
members of the congregation.
Sunday Morning Worship Solicitation
This can be a very effective method and is easy to do, IF YOU . . .
1.
2.
3.
Use all of the materials prior to “Fait Works” Sunday
Promote a good attendance.
Take time to distribute, explain, fill out and receive the gift envelopes
at the service.
If you choose the Sunday morning worship option, you will be successful
if you follow these steps exactly:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Hand out the brochures in every bulletin or during the service.
Have someone do a 5-minute "presentation/ask" using the brochure
to present the information and a personal experience for a heart-felt
“ask.”
Instruct the congregation how to complete the gift envelope included
in the brochure.
Give the entire congregation 5 minutes to complete the gift
envelope.
Collect all gift envelopes at the conclusion of the 5 minute period.
(Don't collect them with the regular offering and don't drop them in
baskets at the door as they leave the sanctuary.) Processionals to
place gift envelopes on the altar or at the front of the chancel work
well.
Suggested Format for Worship Service
 Ushers distribute brochures with bulletins
 During announcements, call attention to the brochure and
emphasize that today is “Faith Works” Sunday and there will be a
special time during the service to make gifts.
 During the sermon, ask the pastor to emphasize the importance of
the various ministries of the Synod.
 Immediately following the sermon, or during the usual time for the
children’s sermon have a speaker, using the brochure, give
information about the Faith Works Campaign, concluding with a
personal experience involving one or more of the ministries. The
speaker should then ask each person or family to make a
commitment using the form in the brochure.
 Music by choir, soloist, or children giving everybody time to fill out
gift envelopes. (Be sure there are pens available)
 Collect the gift envelopes. Children or youth may do this or
members may go to the altar or chancel to present their gifts.
