Dr. Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor Confirming the Called I am so grateful that the Lord called me into the vocational ministry of pastoring a church and preaching the Word of God. Truly, Jesus “gave gifts to men” that called people to “equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the Body of Christ” (Eph. 4:8-12). It is our joy over the next two weeks to confirm the called concerning two young men and their unique ministries. We will vote next week concerning David George as our Pastor of Hispanic Ministry. David has been serving for a number of months as Interim Pastor with our Spanishspeaking friends. When Miguel Cruz resigned and began a new work in our area, we desperately needed someone who was fluent in Spanish, loyal to the church, and had a godly lifestyle to bring restoration and lead toward revival. David has been teaching at First Baptist Academy and previously served as an active layman in Stark, Florida, graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and ministered as an International Mission Board fulltime missionary in Paraguay. He and his wife Linda, a veterinarian, have always been active in different ministries wherever they have served. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Florida State and has served capably as a Health Services Supervisor in Collier County and as an Environmental Health Specialist. David has a great heart for not only building ministry with evangelism and discipleship through our church, but also helping to coordinate our larger ministries and missions to Hispanics. Married for twenty years, he and Linda have three children. The brothers and sisters under his care have already fallen in love with them and gave a standing ovation when they learned of the recommendation by the Personnel Committee. We are also confirming the call of Timothy Pigg, the new pastor of First Baptist Church of Immokalee. After graduating from Southwestern Seminary last week, he and Jessica have moved back home. Since his dad, Doug, became our Administrator and later our Executive Pastor, Timothy has been a member of our church. With his Master of Divinity degree and undergraduate degree, he has already served as the pastor of the Hopewell Baptist Church and as youth minister of the Friendship Baptist Church in the Fort Worth area. He brings many gifts and great intelligence to bear in this calling. Tim has been vetted by an ordination council of pastors this week, with the official ordination service on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. I will bring a biblical charge and message, and we will have the “laying on of hands” by ordained clergy. Ordination has official government recognition, with tax implications and legal endorsement to perform weddings and other activities on behalf of the local church. We welcome our friends from Immokalee in this evening worship service, as well as our entire church. Like young Jeremiah, we recognize that the Lord has “consecrated and appointed” these men to be “prophets to the nations.” The Lord has sent them and they are going, so they are to “speak whatever God commands” (Jeremiah 1:5, 8, 17). *There is a guest reception in the Commons following the Saturday night and Sunday morning worship services. Pastor would love to meet you! Welcome to First Baptist Church Naples We are so glad you joined us for worship! Greeters at the doors can help with any immediate needs you may have. Volunteers at the Information Desk in the Commons can assist you in finding the perfect Bible & Life Group. For more information about our church and ministries, please call Lou at 596-8600 x258. Ordination Service for Timothy Pigg This Sunday, May 17 at 7:00pm in the Chapel Please join us as we have the privilege of ordaining Timothy Pigg to the Gospel Ministry. We will be joined by our friends from First Baptist Church of Immokalee, where Tim will be serving as Pastor. Churchwide Student Ministry There will be no Wednesday night ministries on May 27. The church building will be closed. David George In View of a Call as our Pastor of Hispanic Ministry It is with great excitement that we introduce David George to come in view of a call as our Hispanic Pastor here at FBCN. For the past six months, David has served as our Interim Hispanic Pastor and has done an incredible job of growing and moving the Hispanic Ministry forward. David’s affinity for Hispanic work was formed when he was a missionary with the International Mission Board in Paraguay. David and his wife, Linda, have three children who all attend school at FBA (Savannah-18, Rebekkah-14, and Seth-8). There will be a church vote on David next weekend, May 23 & 24.
