Flossmoor Community Church
In Ephesians 4, the Apostle Paul describes pastors and other leaders as gifts God has given the
Church “to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the Church, the body of Christ”.
Stephen Ministry (www.stephenministries.org) provides an organized way to equip those gifted
for caring ministry within our congregation. Stephen Ministers participate in one-on-one caring
relationships with folks in our congregation who might be experiencing difficult situations in
their lives. If you think you might benefit from the care of Stephen Ministry, or simply want
more information, please contact Rev. Fred Lyon at the church (708-798-2800). All inquiries and
caregiving are confidential.

It is hard to believe that our
Financial Manager, Judy
Jensen, has been with us 15
years as of March 23. She
brings the face of kindness
and patience to our church,
as well as a keen financial
acumen that keeps us sound
and on track every day.
Thank you, Judy, for your
many contributions to FCC!

The fact that nearly a
billion people still don’t
have safe water is mind
boggling. You can help!
The “Feed the Fish Clean
Water Campaign” is being
coordinated by the fifth
and sixth graders in Children’s Ministries. Large Fish
“banks” are located in the Narthex ready to receive
donations for The Water Project. To date, over $4,200
has been collected for the $12,000 goal to build a well in
a community in Rwanda.
Donations may also be made on-line at:

A Poet’s View of Lent
“Lent is a time to allow a fresh new taste of God!”
~Ann Weems, from her poem, “Lent”~
Concludes Today at 11 a.m. in Bell Chapel
Led by Pastor Fred
Come explore Lent through Kneeling in Jerusalem, a book
of poetry by Ann Weems. In addition to discussing Weems’
poems, this class will include prayerful meditation on
selected verses, reading her poems out loud, and writing
some of our own.
Lenten Blessings
Concludes Today at 11 a.m. in the Family Room
Led by Trina Hayes
Using Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.’s words, “We may
have filled our lives so full of other things that we have
no room to receive our blessings,” we’ll explore ways to
recognize our relationship to the spark of God in one
another especially during Lent. While portions of Remen’s
My Grandfather’s Blessings will guide our Lenten journey,
reading the book prior to attending is not necessary.
“NO BAG, PLEASE!”
The average family accumulates 60 bags in only four
trips to the store. Many people don’t realize plastic bags,
film and wrap can’t be recycled curbside. Three easy
solutions:
1) Use reusable bags, and keep a few in your car so
they’re readily available whenever you may shop.
2) Say “no” to bags when you only have a few items
3) Start a new habit at home and save plastic bags,
wrap, film (examples – dry cleaning bags, plastic
wrap from paper towels/toilet paper, produce,
bread and newspaper bags). Collect and drop
them off at local stores such as Jewel, Target
and Walmart where they recycle these plastic
products properly.
