May 29, 2015 - FC Greater Boston Bolts is pleased to announce that the founders of FC
SPARTANS have elected to have its coaches, staff, players and teams join forces with the Bolts
in the Metro West and Metro Boston areas. The FC SPARTANS have elected to formally
dissolve FC SPARTANS and have granted the Bolts permission to use the “SPARTANS”
brands to that the club’s teams can operate under the name FC Bolts Spartans.
Elliot Mejia, President & Co-Founder and Terry Lehane, Vice President & Co-Founder,
established FC SPARTANS in 2009. Over the course of 6 years, the club has grown from 1 to
nearly 20 teams. “We are very excited about this development as it gives those players and
teams who choose to continue with FC Bolts Spartans immediate access to the New England
Premiership (NEP) league and gives opportunities for our top players and teams to access the
National Premier League (NPL). The ambitious and skilled player will have the unique
opportunity to qualify for one of only 2 soccer Developmental Academy Programs (DAP) in
Massachusetts. We will be joining the largest and most well-respected pool of top level
coaches throughout New England. FC Greater Boston Bolts has also recently announced its
intention to merge with the Scorpions. This will provide even more exposure for our girl’s teams
and would make the club the only club north of New Jersey to have both development pathways
for boys and girls. “Both Elliot and I have agreed to act as advisors to FC Bolts SPARTANS, so
the club can benefit from our soccer knowledge, network and experience” stated Terry Lehane.
Established in 1986, FC Greater Boston Bolts is one of the oldest premier soccer clubs in
Massachusetts. As an original member of the US Soccer Development Academy, Bolts
compete on the national level and in the Northeast Pre-Academy League (NEPAL) as well as
National Premier League (NPL). FC Bolts are a founding member of the New England Premier
League (NEP).
Joining forces with like-minded coaches who share the Bolts focus on technical and tactical
development of youth players at every level, will expand the player pool and regional footprint
of the FC Bolts Spartans. This opens up the number of opportunities for Metro West and Metro
Boston youth soccer players by providing players an opportunity to join a growing number of
high level teams as well as to compete in the NEP, Massachusetts’ top premier league. FC
Bolts Spartans will sustain FC SPARTANS’ vision of keeping the kid’s local and creating a
pathway to develop at the top level.
We play soccer all year round. We have our Junior Academy for our U5-U9 players in the
Boston and Metro-West with options to train in fall, spring and winter. Our U9-U18 teams play
in leagues in the Fall & Spring and over the course of the Winter we train indoors for tournament
preparation.
