Daughters
chaning lives for victims of trafficking in Cambodia
Daughters works with girls who have been trafficked into the sex industry
and offers them a way out. We do this by offering jobs, along with
programs and support services at our day centre located in a
red light area of Phnom Penh.
Provision of a job is fundamental in facilitating girls to set themselves free,
since most girls are trafficked because their families demand financial
support.
Our approach is to empower the girls to change their own lives by giving
them skills and tools to do so. We equip them to make and sustain healthy
choices for their own lives within their own context and culture,
avoiding NGO dependence.
The visitor centre houses 3 of our businesses; Sugar ‘n Spice cafe, Hands ’n
Feet Spa, and a shop selling the beautiful products we make in our Sewing
Room. Our businesses pay fair trade salaries, with good working conditions,
and free supplementary services built into the working day including
medical clinic, counseling clinic, daycare, creative and educational
programs. Girls who show potential are promoted to positions of leadership, including head chef, manager, trainers and designers. Girls who come
to Daughters report a 75% increase in psychological, physical and social
quality of life. 98% of girls who come to Daughters never return to the sex
industry.

unique to Daughters, designed and hand-made
in our workshops in Phnom Penh. As you will
see, the young men and women in our
programs are talented and careful in their work,
so that our products are a high quality, that
they can be proud of.
Daughters products shown in this catalogue
are available to buy from our Phnom penh
boutique. All proceeds from sales is ploughed
back into Daughters businesses, and enables
more victims of trafficking to leave the sex
trade and experience a new life.

Sewing skills
Girls employed in the sewing room start as
machinsts, and quickly move up to
positions such as trainers, cutters & quality
controllers; several girls also learn design
skills. They are quick to learn and show
great talent as they acquire these
skills sets. New recruits are trained by
the girls promoted to leadership positions,
and this peer mentoring system works well.
Girls can also access micro-finance loans
to purchase sewing machines so they can
earn extra money sewing at home.

Increasing awareness of the plight of male transsexual
sex workers in Cambodia prompted us to extend our
project to include this unreached population of
precious human beings whose lives are caught up in
slavery of a different kind.
Daughters launched Sons of Cambodia in mid-2010,
aimed at helping ‘ladyboys’ find ways out of sex work
and into a situation of freedom from exploitation,
with opportunities to create social and
psychological quality of life for themselves.

Daughters representatives
Daughters are recruiting representatives from all over the world that want to promote
and support the cause of Daughters by using our products to advertise the work that we
do. Representatives will also be asked to share our prayer needs, advertise the volunteer
positions we have available in Cambodia and to seek out sponsors for our clients.
Representatives are able to buy from a small range of products to promote the work of
daughters rather than to make a profit. The products will be cheap, easy to sell items, that
remind the buyer of the work that Daughters does (e.g key rings and tote bags etc). Not
everyone is able to come and volunteer at Daughters but we know there are lots of
people who would love to support Daughters from their own cities and we hope working together in this way will prove to be both rewarding for the representative and
beneficial to the work of Daughters.
