YEAR 4 NEWSLETTER – TERM 1, WEEK 10B
The highlight of this week has been the excursion to the Botanic Gardens at Benowa. The girls enjoyed
deepening their knowledge and understanding of the diversity of plants in our region and the importance of
conservation.
On Tuesday 4N and 4B went to the Botanic Gardens. We were directed by a lady called Mrs Rana. Mrs Rana
told us the history of plants and how important plants are for us:
Plants give out air that helps us breathe, plants give food and shelter to animals, plants can be shady and can
keep people cool through the Summer, but in Winter it is
warm under the trees. 4N and 4B saw many different types of
interesting plants and animals that were from overseas and
from Australia.
The Botanic Gardens was given to the Queensland
Government by the Rosser Family, but they didn't give it to
them to pollute and build roads and buildings, they gave it to
the government to make a sustainable park, where people can
learn about plants and how important they are to us!
4M and 4F are going to be going to have this lovely

4B’s Day at the Botanical Gardens
We enjoyed having scientific discussions with our guide, using the language we have learnt about Australia’s
native plants, animals and vegetation types. The girls found it interesting hearing facts about how living
things rely on each other to survive. 4B was shocked to hear that the Melaleuca plant was able to clean water
with its roots, which assisted living things around it.
The Tristanian girls were very proud to have their photo taken with their native tree!
We also just thoroughly relished the opportunity of spending the day in the gardens with such gorgeous
weather, great company, a fabulous guide and loads of space to play Red Rover and Tiggy!
Information Reports – English
In class we have been working hard on our cyber
safety information reports. First we took notes
and planned our writing. We then drafted our
information reports and had to make many
corrections to our drafts. Most of us are now on
to publishing our information reports on Book
Creator and they are looking great. It has been
fun bun challenging so far.

Probability - Maths
4F have been learning about probability and the likelihood of events occurring. They conducted an
experiment which involved predicting outcomes, tossing a coin 30 times and tallying their results. They then
discussed their findings and compared their results with other groups.
Easter Vacation Care
Easter Vacation Care will run from the 2 April through to 20 April. It will be closed on the 3 and 6 April for

Ripple Kindness Card
