YEAR 3 NEWSLETTER – TERM 1, WEEK 10B We would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Year 3 girls and their families a safe and happy Easter. Thank you for all your assistance and support this Term and we are looking forward to seeing everyone after the break! Cross Country The Cross Country will be held next Wednesday beginning at approximately 9am. The girls will be required to come to School in their full dress uniform and they will then change into their PE uniform, before going to Owen Park. The Cross Country will finish around 11.30am. The girls will then need to change back into the School uniform for the Easter Service, which will be held in the MPC at 1.30pm. Parents are warmly invited to attend both the Cross Country and the Easter Service. Drama The girls have been researching South East Asian animals and then acting out interviews by playing the roles of the animal and the interviewer. The girls have been thoroughly enjoying these lessons. Year 3 PE Week 10 Congratulations to all girls on a fantastic effort in swimming. They have all worked really hard and learnt so much. We have now finished swimming so the girls will no longer be required to bring their swimming gear. Next week the girls will be required to bring their PE sports uniform. This includes: PE shirt and PE shorts, hat, sunscreen, runners and a filled water bottle. All these items need to be clearly named. This year the girls in Years 3 and 5 will sit these tests on 12–14 May. NAPLAN is a skills-based assessment and as such, it is not a test for which the students can revise. The results will be available to the school and parents sometime during Term 3 and will provide an indication of where your daughter is placed academically compared with other Year 3 students within the School, the State and across the country. We prepare the girls for these tests through our broad, balanced and rich curriculum experiences that we provide throughout the Junior School. NAPLAN gives a snapshot in time of your daughter’s progress and the data adds to the information which the classroom teacher uses to ensure that her classroom experiences are matched to her ability with appropriate levels of support and enrichment. In the next few weeks we will also be familiarising the students with the format of the tests, the protocols which have to be observed and the different ways in which the questions can be answered. There are many resources available on the Internet and also in bookshops, but we do not recommend that students work through these booklets, as this can increase anxiety levels, which in turn affects the child’s ability to perform as they would normally do. We do, however, recommend that you display a positive attitude to the tests, maintain regular routines in the lead up to and during the weeks of assessments and that your daughter has a nutritious breakfast each morning. To assist you in supporting your daughter generally with Literacy and Numeracy and more specifically with NAPLAN, an iTunes U course has been developed with many resources which you may find useful. This course can be accessed on an iPad or iPhone using the following QR codes to download the app and then the course: App: iTunes U course: Homework Homework has finished for the Term. Why not spend some time with your daughter doing practical tasks during your holiday together?
