Peer Support FolkTime peer support connects people recovering from mental illness. Peer support specialists share the experience of mental illness and have participated in specific training to learn how to assist others who are in various stages of their mental health recovery. 600 By offering genuine empathy, having traveled similar roads of discomfort, distress, or trauma, peer support specialists advocate for and offer support navigating community resources. Our social centers offer games, classes, music, art, outings, and daily meals in a safe place. Rural Outreach. People with mental health diagnoses can feel isolated even when surrounded by people. Those living in rural areas can face additional challenges. Our rural outreach program caters to situations that are unique to rural communities. Crisis Support. Peers meet one-on-one with people in severe distress. They also participate in community visits and conduct outreach efforts in collaboration with mental health workers. Support in Clinics. Peers advocate for clients within the clinic and support them in the community to find natural supports for their long term mental health. Health Resilience Peer Support. Our peer support specialists work with people who have complex medical needs. Peers facilitate connection with communities and activities support of their long-term mental and physical health. Residential Support. Portland Metro Veterans Connection. Our veteran peers give those who have served in the military a chance to spend time with other vets through various activities. Awareness. FolkTime’s Open Minds, Open Doors anti-stigma campaign brings awareness to the community about mental health and substance abuse recovery.
