Validation Study Participation Request

Certified Peer Core Competency Validation Study
Request for Participation
The Florida Certification Board (FCB) has been certifying substance abuse and mental health peers since 2006.
Peer certification is professional recognition of persons who use their lived experience, in combination with
knowledge and skills learned through formal training programs, to provide guidance, support, linkages and
role-modeling to help others achieve and maintain recovery from mental illness or substance abuse. As a
normal course of business, core competencies are reviewed and updated on a regular basis to ensure that
certification programs reflect current practice. To that end, the FCB is conducting a Certified Recovery Peer
Specialist (CRPS) core competency update and validation study.
The FCB has completed the core competency update and determined that there are four common domains of
practice, regardless of the peer’s “type” of personal lived experience. Within each domain, there are lists of
core competencies, which are the job tasks that a certified peer should be able to perform regardless of
employer or the peer’s personal lived experience.
The domains are:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Advocacy (5 Job Tasks)
Mentoring (8 Job Tasks)
Recovery Support (10 Job Tasks)
Professional Responsibility (7 Job Tasks)
The next step of the process is to validate the performance domains and job tasks. This is where your input is
critically important. The FCB is inviting you to complete a survey that asks you to do the following:
a.
b.
c.
d.
Rate how frequently each job task is performed by peers.
Rate how important it is for a peer to be able to perform each job task correctly.
Describe how much time you think you spend performing job tasks within each domain.
Tell us if you think there are any performance domains or job tasks missing from the survey.
The survey will take approximately 30 minutes of your time.
The survey is posted on line at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZZW29WR
Please respond to the survey no later than April 30, 2015.
If you would like to view a hard copy of the survey prior to submitting your responses on-line, the survey can
be downloaded from the FCB’s website at http://flcertificationboard.org/certifications/certified-recoverypeer-specialist-adult-family-or-veteran/
Your time and willingness to participate is greatly appreciated. As a thank you, you will earn 2 CEUs toward
your upcoming renewal.
