June 9th-Anthony Amedure settled on his 29th birthday as one of the happiest ones. He
and his wife and two daughters were
visiting Busch Gardens (“fun for the
whole family”) in Tampa FL. What
excitement to see the variety of African wildlife roaming freely, exotic
animals and many rides.
June 22nd-Tom Armstrong went from his Beckville
and Marshall TX roots into the U.S.
Navy for 20 years. He served in the
Atlantic going along the coast of
South America, into the Persian Gulf
and Red Sea areas with some 7 trips in
the Mediterranean area. He was senior
chief of BTCS-Boilers! His ship
would go along behind carriers to pick up pilots. He
served as administrator of all hospital services but
medical for Wells Eye Hospital, Philadelphia. He
came to Lehigh in 1988. A claim to musical fame: he
played the “sticks” (drums) for the 1st grade Beckville
band.
June 25th-Sigi Biederman recalls his 50th birthday
when he and Maria traveled to Germany to visit her twin sister. He celebrated with them and his brother and
wife in his hometown of Karlshruhe.
They lived in Fort Myers before coming to Fountain Crest – now in their
2nd year.
June 25th-Betty (Pauline Elizabeth) Nelson related the story
of her Cuban adventure with her family of
two babies and husband in the early '50s
when Carlos Prio Socarras was President.
She said it was a fantastic place to live.
The people were funny – laughed a lot –
were very caring. One of the strangest
happenings was when she and the children were passengers on the bus that was
driven right over the sidewalk and up to
the door. They were helped inside midst lots of laughter
June 27th-Oswald Sherman celebrates two birthdays
each year: the day he was born in
May in Jamaica and June 27th, the
day his birth was registered. After
war service, he lived in London. His
childhood sweetheart came to London to marry him. He's also traveled
to Spain, Germany and France. He
still likes cold weather. As he put it:
when you are too cold, you can put
on more clothes, but when you are too hot ….....
